Admit it; our city is awash in Indian restaurants, from the Chettinad cuisine to North Indian dishes and Banana leaf houses serving favourites of many such as Tandoori chicken, Biryani Rice, Chicken 65, Tikka Chicken and Naan bread, just to name a few.

So imagine the raised eyebrows with jaw-dropping when Meat The Porkers - materialised on a piece of KL prime real estate at Publika in late November 2016, boldly proclaiming itself as "The First of its Kind in the World" - A Non-Halal Indian restaurant in Malaysia offering delicious and authentic Mughal cuisine with everyone's favourite "other" white meat - Pork!

Hungry and ready, we were excited to check out the exciting porky menu. While waiting for the highlight of the evening, we munched on some crispy thin snacks of papadum.

Pork Pakora
My journey to porky Indian cuisine, starting off my gastronomic route with this delightful platter of deep-fried crunchy Pork Pakora consists of succulent boneless pork deep fried in batter. Deep fried wonder was a hit with everyone at the table. Flavourful, well-marinated and super crispy too, a great start to prepare your tummy for more pork dishes.

The star of the night was, of course, the much-awaited ~ Signature dish of Meat The Porkers, Roast Pork Biryani. This royal dish with history from the rustic kitchen of the Mughal Emperors in 1800 was given a porky twist in the 21st century thanks to the creative taste of the owner, Herukh.

Roast Pork Biryani a.k.a Siew Yoke Biryani
Under the flagship of Fierce Curry House's Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, this Siew Yoke Biryani was an experience to relish and remember. Herukh's love affair with the roast pork is clearly evident in every spoon of the Roast Pork Biryani a.k.a Siew Yoke Biryani made with the finest long grain basmati rice and succulent roast pork belly cubes. Served garnished with coriander leaves, and topped with gravy, raita and papadum.

The traditional method of sealing the pot with a "Purdah" which is a simple dough made of water and flour enhances the slow-cooking process, thus releasing maximum flavour and aroma to this wonderful dish.

I believe Herukh has perfected his recipe through many trials and errors, and this amazingly delicious pork biryani rice is an explosion of flavours, making the famous roast pork an equal star of the spread. Highly recommended it if Siew Yoke is your fave! 🐷🐷🐷

Tandoori Pork Ribs
Moving on next, another winner in its own right ~ Tandoori Pork Ribs. Oink-oink, to all the pork ribs lovers out there especially those who love the Tandoori style of cooking, you definitely need to give the pork ribs a try. The full rack of the pork ribs marinated in yoghurt freshly ground spices grilled to perfection.

The tenderness of the grilled pork ribs goes well with either choice of condiments available, namely freshly made Pol Sambal, Tamarind BBQ sauce, and mint chutney. The culinary experience is not complete without these condiments that add to the array of colours on the dish and another dimension of flavours.

In fact, my favourite condiment is the Tamarind BBQ sauce, and I have to say that it really gets our appetites going with their signature dishes here. The food here certainly checked the box for guilty pleasures. 😉😉😉

Bacon Cheese Naan

Next, on the tasting list, there is the Bacon Cheese Naan to check out. Simply crazy and addictive, I guess only a bacon-lover can come out with such a wonderful idea, that is to incorporate the tasty bacon and cheese into the simple naan bread.

Bacon Cheese Naan
The wafting aroma of the bacon from the freshly baked naan coming from the traditional earthen oven whets the appetite. Cooked upon order, the bacon cheese naan is crisp on the outside with a bubble-like texture that makes it soft with a distinctive taste. My hubby, who is a naan lover, was in seventh heaven that night, enjoying the last piece of naan in his gastronomy world.

Apart from the 3 distinctively mouth-watering dishes, diners can check out the rest of the tempting Indian dishes given a unique twist when cooked with pork. Masala lovers can order the Pork 65 Masala which is fried boneless pork tossed in a yoghurt based masala with green chillies and curry leaves.

Pork Rogan Josh, on the other hand, is boneless pork cooked with gravy made with fried onions, yoghurt, ginger, garlic, and aromatic spices.

Another highlight was the Butter Pork, which is a famous Punjabi dish. Now perfected into a pork dish 🐷🐷🐷 which is Pork Tikka in a creamy tomato and butter gravy flavoured with dry fenugreek leaves. My favourite in fact for the savoury dish has a creamy gravy coating the tender pork cubes, and its buttery taste made it appetising.

Meat The Porker's version of the Seekh Kebab is minced pork meat with ginger, garlic, roasted cumin powder and coriander. Ingredients borrowed from Indian cuisine give far-flung flavours to these kebabs. They are great as starters or as a filling for a wrap eaten with your naan.
