Thai Syok
 Thai Restaurant Yakitori
Capturing The Essense Of Thai Cuisine
If you are on a budget and loves to taste Authentic Thai Cuisine, then this review will be of great interest to you. We were invited to try out the newly open Thai Syok Thai Food Restaurant located at 15, Jalan PJS 8/18, Dataran Mentari, Sunway Mentari, Bandar Sunway, Selangor.

Simple No Frill Decor

The decor and setup at Thai Syok Thai Restaurant Yakitori is a no frill, simple setup; on entry to the restaurant you will be greeted and welcomed by 2 special Thai figurine.

 Plethora Of  Authentic Thai Cuisines

Exceptionally Fragrant Thai Rice

The chefs in Thai Syok are all Thai's, so our expectation is sky-high on the quality and taste of the food served from the restaurant.

 Papaya Salad
RM 10.50

Our review started with the Papaya Salad. This salad has a spicy and sourish taste. With the combination of toasted peanuts, shredded raw papaya, it was a nice appetiser to kick off our food review.

 Seafood Tom Yum Kung (Medium)
RM 24.30

This is then followed by the Seafood Tom Yum Kung (Medium). It is loaded with a combination of seafood like prawns, squids, mussel, mushroom and more. But, what is more, important was the potent concoction of this Tom Yum; which has a distinctive strong taste; of which you could easily get choked.

The chef uses a special in-house made Tom Yum paste with the right amount of bunga kantan and lemongrass. The soup was very addictive as we can't stop slurping it spoonful after spoonful.

Fried Tom Yum Fish
(Seasonal Pricing)

For the mains, we had another Chef speciality dish which is the Fried Tom Yum Fish. At Thai Syok, you can choose the type of fish that you like is Grouper, Tilapia or Barramundi; for us, it was the Red Tilapia (prices for the fish is based on the type of fish and weight).

Fried to a bright yellow crunchy crisp and then topped with the appetizing special Tom Yum sauce laden with a generous amount of cut ginger flower or bunga kantan; the entire dish was very aromatic and delightfully fragrant. This is another dish that goes pretty well with the white rice. We finish this dish right to the last drop of sauce.

 Yakitori Combo
RM 24

At this Thai Syok outlet, the owner is introducing some special skewers or Thai yakitori to its menu. We had the Yakitori Combo (RM24.00) and only available for dinner. The main difference between the Thai and the Japanese Yakitori will be the Japanese usually does not marinate its meat before being grilled, while its Thai counterpart will be marinated in special sauces.

This makes the flavours of the marinade penetrate to the meat. In our combo set we had a skewer of pork neck, pork belly, pandan leaf chicken, basil minced meat with lemongrass, king prawns on tom yum paste and chicken wings.

 Deep-Fried Pork Knuckle
RM 58.20

The next dish is the Deep Fried Pork Knuckle. According to the owner, the pork knuckle are first pre-cooked in a special broth, both to soften the texture and immerse it with the fragrant aroma of the broth.

Before serving, it is then fried to a crisp; so that you can really taste the crackling skin while enjoying the juicy sweet flavour of the meat. Another dish that gets our thumbs up.

 BBQ Lamb Chop

After that we had the soon to be released BBQ Lamb Chop. The pre-marinated lamb chop are then grilled to the right charred while the meat still retains its juiciness and succulence.

Wok Fried Asparagus with Shrimps
RM 24.30

For vegetables, we had the Wok Fried Asparagus with Shrimps. We love the crunchy texture of the young asparagus and was a nice vegetable to accompany our other dishes.

Thai Mango With Sweet Glutinous Rice

For desserts, we can't leave without trying out my favourite Thai Mango With Sweet Glutinous Rice. This dessert must be eaten fairly quickly as the glutinous rice tends to dry up quite fast; thereby having a hard texture toward the end. It was nicely decorated with the mango surrounding the Glutinous rice and the coconut sauce.

Ice Blended Red Rubies With Jack Fruit and Coconut Syrup

And the second dessert was the Ice Blended Red Rubies With Jack Fruit and Coconut Syrup to complete our dinner. The difference with the ice blended compare with the crush ice version, is that it is much finer, blended well with the coconut syrup and smoother to drink. We like this too.

As most people will know that Dataran Sunway Mentari is famous for steamboat, but you will never expect such good quality and reasonably price Thai Food from this area and certainly Thai Syok Thai Restaurant Yakitori have proven their capability to dish out such a cuisine.

NIKUDO Premium Prawn Roll is produced from fresh prawn and fish using sophisticated and hygienic technology. Created specifically to cater for the busy moms or housewife in preparing a tasty home cooked meal for her beloved family.

Raw NIKUDO Premium Prawn Roll

Suited for modern cooking style as easy as 1,2,3 - just either deep-fry, steam, boil or even microwave the prawn rolls with no thawing required. Cooking this really saves me a lot of time as it brings everything to life without the hassle of measuring, mixing and marinating of the ingredients. It saves time with advance preparation.

Check out these fresh and meaty prawn rolls prior to cooking before I decided to deep-fry them in my non-stick cast iron wok. Remember strictly no thawing required, in fact if you do not fry them frozen and gotten them thawed instead, it would be crazy trying to deep fried these lovely rolls as oil will splatter all over with the water content in them.

Mouth-Watering Deep Fried NIKUDO Premium Prawn Rolls

I have to say that although I'm not a fan of deep fried food but these appetising prawn rolls really hits all the right spot in my tastebuds. Crispy on the outside with tender and succulent 2 to 3 whole sized prawns inside.

You can taste the real prawn pieces inside unlike some products which claim to serve prawn roll but instead the stuffings are made out of prawn paste, flour and many other ingredients. A Must Try item if you loves prawn and fry food!

NIKUDO Ebi ( Prawn ) Fry
RM10  for 10 pcs

NIKUDO Ebi (Prawn) Fry is produced from fresh prawn flavoured and coated with breadcrumbs. Ready to serve by deep frying for 4 to 5 minutes till golden brown. For this product, no thawing required also.
Deep Frying The Ebi In The Wok Of Oil

Ready To Be Served
Tasty-Looking NIKUDO Ebi Prawn Fry

Well, here you are my plate of freshly fried to golden perfection EBI Prawn Fry served with zuchini slices. It's crunchy and flavourful on the outside, while preserving the ingredients moist and authentic tastes on the inside.

But between the two prawns products, I would still prefer the crispy and more bite Premium Prawn Rolls as I'm not a great fan of breadcrumbs coated food items. Apart from that, I like the prawn rolls as it comes with generous amount of prawns wrapped inside the roll.

NIKUDO IKA ( Cuttlefish ) Fry

RM 10 ( 300g )

NIKUDO IKA ( Cuttlefish ) Fry is produced from fresh cuttlefish flavoured and coated with breadcrumbs. It's also another easy-to-cook product, just pick up a pack to cook it straight from the freezer.

No thawing required too, you just have to preheat the oil to around 150 celsius; deep fry the IKA ( Cuttlefish ) for 4 to 5 minutes until it turns golden brown. Drain the oil and place your cuttlefish on kitchen towel to absorb the excess oil. Serve hot and best eaten with Thai chillie sauce or mayonnaise too!

Crunchy Appetiser of IKA (Cuttlefish) Fry

This delightful deep fried NIKUDO IKA (Cuttlefish) Fry makes an addictive appetisers. You will especially enjoy the chewiness surround these bite size portion of the cuttlefish. Breadcrumbs added an incredibly crunchy texture to sinfully fried ika. Sotong lovers, you do not want to miss this dish which can be quite addictive when eaten over drinks.

 Japanese Chicken Dumplings
10 pcs ( 200gm )

Japanese Chicken Dumplings can be prepared straight from freezer into cooker. You just need to either boil, steam or deep-fry to your personal preferences.

Cooking instructions are stated behind the pack. Just read the simple easy to follow step-by-step to prepare these chicken dumplings in less than 5 minutes.

Plump Looking Chicken Dumplings In Raw Form

This time for a change, I decided  to steam these dumplings instead of deep-frying as I did for the last 3 products. After steaming for around 4 minutes as instructed, I still find the edges a bit hard and did a last steaming under high heat for another 3 minutes. Luckily, it turn out well but my kiddos still prefer the fried version more than anything else.
 Freshly Steamed Chicken Dumplings

Taste wise it was just okay to me as I expected more meaty and firmer texture from these dumplings. Soft and lacking in flavour, these plump-looking dumplings just didn't make the mark as compared to the rest that I tasted.

Oh well, that ends the full review of the 4 NIKUDO products tested and tasted. With more hits than misses (except for their chicken dumplings) that didn't fare too well in my books, with NIKUDO's time-honoured reputation for delivering high quality wholesome and delicious products; I believe it's one of the best place for you to shop for seafood in Klang Valley.

Another bonus point about Nikudo seafood is that it is HALAL certified, and therefore, Muslims may consume food produced by Nikudo seafood with ease.
