The campaign for World Sight Day 2017 was aptly named 'MAKE VISION COUNT' is a holistic CSR campaign aimed at advocating eye and vision care amidst rising impairment and eye problem incidences in Malaysia.
World Sight Day (WSD) is a global initiative to raise awareness of preventable blindness and vision impairment. Approximately 285 million people worldwide live with low vision and blindness. In fact, 4 out of 5, that means 80% of the world's blindness or vision impairment could have been prevented, either by early detection of eye problem or by just having it cured by treatment or surgery, or perhaps just by wearing a pair of prescription glasses.
According to President & CEO of Focus Point Holdings Berhad, Dato Liaw Choon Liang, WSD is a particularly meaningful event for Focus Point as it synergizes with the company's core values and business model of making people see better.
"This year marks our 6th year running WSD event. We are excited and proud to be part of the global effort in raising public awareness on the importance of vision care and eye health. It's also very much in line with the company's philosophy of giving back to the community, " said Dato' Liaw.

Speech by Dato’ Garry Chua, MRCA President
This year's theme - "Make Vision Count" carries the strong message that everyone can beat preventable blindness or vision impairment by providing public with proper education and useful information - as "Knowledge is Power".

The global concerns are the rising trend of myopia (short-sightedness) affecting many school-going children and could be a major health issue of our time. Over 28% of the world's populations were affected by Myopia in 2010 and is expected to rise to 34% by the year 2020 and near 50% by the year 2050. Early detection of Myopia is highly recommended through a proper vision screening at an early age.
The rising trend should be a concern as high levels of Myopia increases the risk of sight-threating conditions such as Retinal detachment, Myopic Macular Degeneration, Cataract and Glaucoma at a later stage.
Focus Point's WSD offered a kaleidoscope range of holistic activities to encourage Malaysians to care for eye's health. It's presented with a fresh and colourful manner with many exciting and interactive games such as 'Snap A Vision' photo contest which aims to enable all to appreciate the gift of sight in a fun and entertainment way.
