The Aroi Dee Thai Restaurant at Palm Garden Resort, IOI Resort City is sporting a new location at the 8th floor of the hotel. It used to be the venue of the hotel's spa till recently and has been converted beautifully into a cosy and classy restaurant where Chef Seeri a/l Din Ren and Chef Randy a/l Aiguan delves out "good tastes" of Thai cuisines as depicted by the restaurant's name "AROI DEE".

Aroi Dee now sports a new selection of single dishes on top of the existing a la carte menu for the set. Chef Seeri has whipped out new and appetising fusion selections - Bistro style cuisines such as Kway Teow Pad Ki (Spicy Stir Fried Kway Teow With Hot Basil Leaves & Seafood), Spaghetti Pad Kleng Keng Kew (Stir Fried Spaghetti With Green Curry paste), Udon Pad Prik Gung Nam Yead (Spicy Braised Udon Noodle with Fresh Water Prawn), Pad Neau San Hua Kap Kway Teow (Pan Fried Tenderloin Beef served with Kway Teow), Kao Pad Sapparod (Pineapple Fried Rice with Seafood & Chicken Floss) and much more.
A Fusion Of Spicy, Sweet & Sour Cuisine At Aroi Dee
Besides the a la carte items, old favourites for set meals are always available for guests dining pleasure such as the Tom Yum Soup, Deep Fried Prawn with Golden Salted Eggs, Green Curry Chicken/Beef, Sizzling Prawns Nyonya Style, Enche Kabin (Nyonya Fried Chicken) and much more to choose from. Apart from the Thai selections, a few Nyonya food items are being offered on the menu which are Chef Seeri's speciality.
Our gastronomic food-tasting adventures begin with the starter, followed by mains and moving on to noodles and rice dishes, to be completed with some sweet desserts. While we prepared to feast upon a wide array of highly appetising meals by Chef Seeri, I was absolutely impressed to hear that humble and friendly Chef Seeri used to cook for the royals, predominantly The Sultan Of Brunei many years ago. How awesome!
Saku Sai Gai
RM 22
For starters, we savour appetising creation of Chef Seeri's special Saku Sai Gai which is steamed Sagoo with Chicken, which helps to whet one's appetite for the mains to come. Addictive dish, I enjoy the flavourful minced chicken within the chewy sago, of course minus the little chilli padi or birds eye chilli on top.
Seafood Red Tom Yum Soup
For soup, you, of course, must have Seafood Red Tom Yum Soup, the perfect dish capturing the essence of Thai cuisine, with its sourish acidity and spicy heat coming from the roasted chilli paste, which Chef Seeri made from scratch and accented sweetly by the fragrant lemongrass, galangal, and much more of the Thai fresh herbs.
Filled with freshwater prawns and seafood, the fiery red soup is flavourful with herbs and natural seasonings are used to create a variety of colours and sensations in taste that make a meal at Aroi Dee exciting and enjoyable.
Star Of The Night
Steamed Sea Bass (Siakap) Thai Style
Steamed Sea Bass (Siakap) Thai Style
Coming up is my Top Pick Of The Day - In fact, this is my personal favourite as I loved steamed fish in any style. Recommended dish is the Steamed Sea Bass (Siakap) Thai Style, perfectly steamed with a light and tangy lime, chopped garlic, coriander root and birds eye chilli sauce then garnished with coriander leaves and scallions.
Chef Seeri's emphasises on the quality and taste of its food especially for fresh seafood truly makes my day. We thoroughly enjoyed the fish dish to the last drop including the head and tail too and with me scooping up the delicious sauce to go with my warm white rice that day. Thumbs up to this superb dish!
Gai Hor Dai Toey
Thai Pandan Chicken
RM 22 For 4 pcs
Dining at Thai restaurants is never complete if you do not try their Gai Hor Dai Toey or Thai Pandan Chicken. Here in Aroi Dee, Chef Seeri served one of the best specialty Thai Pandan Chicken in town. The chicken is moist, tender, infused with refreshing pandan aroma and encased in the leaf packets.
Always been my favourite, just loved the amazing aroma of the screwpine/pandan leaves is infused into the chicken meat, giving the ordinary chicken a distinct flavour and unique presentation. Served with a sweet and salty sesame dipping sauce to complements the subtle flavour of the chicken.
Kao Pad Sapparod
Pineapple Fried Rice with Seafood & Chicken Floss
RM 27
If you fancy rice, try the Kao Pad Sapparod which is Pineapple Fried Rice with Seafood and Chicken Floss. It is cooked with a generous portion of seafood, with the sweetness of the pineapple complements the prawns as well. For exotic Thai style, it is served in a freshly carved pineapple boat.
Pad Neau San Hua Kap Kway Teow
Pan Fried Tenderloin Beef served with Kway Teow
RM 28
Chef's special, an impressive Thai fusion dish of Pad Neau San Hua Kap Kway Teow - Pan Fried Tenderloin Beef served with Kway Teow is a great dish to try if you are a noodles lover. The noodle was really delicious, full of wok-hei and combined with the meat sauce that made this a real comfort food candidate indeed.
Moist & Tender Tenderloin Beef
RM 38
Tempt your taste buds with a change of flavours with today's tasty traditional with Chef Seeri's fusion offering of Udon Noodle. In this dish, the Udon Pad Prik Gung Nam Yead or Spicy Braised Udon Noodle with Fresh Water Prawn has been enriched with treats by adding mussel, squids and juicy fresh water prawns to the mix.
The freshness of the large prawn was evident and the thick chewy udon, similar to some Hokkien-style noodles was cooked with loads of red and green capsicum to complete the whole dish. Good choice if you are a hardcore Udon lover.
Sangkaya Phek
Yam Egg Custard
RM 15
Ending the exquisite dinner with Sangkaya Phek, a Yam Egg Custard served with creamy and thick coconut milk. I like the egg custard for its smooth and creamy texture but found the yam portion not soft enough. Chef Seeri explained that the dessert should be eaten while it's still hot, that is when it just warm and nice. The texture will change once left to cool in room temperature.
Sangkaya Fack Thong
Pumpkin Egg Custard
RM 15
If you like pumpkin like me, this would be an ideal dessert to try out. Sangkaya Fack Thong or Pumpkin Egg Custard. It's a Thai-style pumpkin pie served with a layer of smooth egg custard and topped with a lightly sweetened coconut milk.

This Thai pumpkin custard - Sangkaya is a popular street vendor sweet in Thailand but served in the pumpkin wedge in slices and each wedge costs about 20 baht back in 2011.

You would have definitely missed a good Thai and Nyonya meal if you have not visited Aroi Dee Thai Restaurant. Although it's quite a distant from Kuala Lumpur, my family and I would not mind travelling the distant for good food as Chef Seeri has live up to our high expectation, in serving up a scrumptious and satisfying Thai meal each and every time I dine there with my family.
