We recently visited a corner durian stall promoting a deal that seemed too good to pass up: Musang King at RM180 for 10kg.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a lesson in "The Art of Deception." It sounded like a steal, but the "stealing" was actually happening at the packing counter!

Beware & Look Out For This Lady As She's The One Who Took Away Our Box Of Durian

The Tactic: While the staff was "fast" at opening and packing, they tried to pull a "magic trick" right under our noses. Even though we saw 4 boxes being filled, they insisted we only had 3. The lady actually took our 4th box & tucked it away into another bag! 

The Confrontation: It took a lot of firm questioning and a bit of a "scene" from my sister-in-law before they finally coughed up what was rightfully ours. My husband weighed the 3 boxes—only 2kg. Math doesn't lie: 10kg of whole durian should yield much more than that. 

Lesson Learned: Some sellers use low prices to lure you in, then try to recoup the cost by "magically" making your durian disappear during the packing process.

My Advice to You:

 Watch like a hawk: Don't walk away while they are packing.

 Know The Yield: 10kg of whole durian typically yields about 25%–30% fruit weight. 2kg is a massive red flag.

 BYOC (Bring Your Own Container): Not only is it eco-friendly, but it also makes it harder for them to swap or hide your fruit!

Pro-Tip: If you're buying 10kg of durian, you should be walking away with roughly 2.5kg to 3kg of pulp. If it feels light, weigh it!
