Established back in 1997, this neighborhood staple has been drawing locals for nearly three decades. Recently, I headed there with my sister and her extended family—a big group of 10—which gave me the perfect opportunity to sample a wide variety of their signature dishes!

The Star of the Show: Signature Steamed Soong Fish Head

You can’t visit Restoran LFF without ordering their Steamed Soong Fish Head. It is the dish that put them on the map. What makes it special? Affordability: At only RM 33 per portion, it is easily one of the most value-for-money fish head dishes in Kuala Lumpur.

Variety: They offer six different sauces to choose from, including Soya Sauce, Minced Ginger, Salted Black Bean, and Spicy Bean Sauce. For our dinner, we went with the Minced Ginger version. The fish was fresh, the portion was generous, and the ginger gave it that perfect spicy, aromatic kick.

What We Ordered: A Family Feast
Dining with 10 people meant our table was overflowing! Here is the breakdown of our meal:
The Hits (Auntie Lilly’s Top Picks) ⭐

Steamed Song Yi Head with Minced Ginger
The absolute highlight. Fresh and worth every sen
RM 33

Kam Heong Lala (M)
Very fragrant with a good amount of spice
RM 44

Pai Kuat Wong Pork Chop (M)
Well-seasoned and satisfying
RM 35

Golden Salted Egg Yolk Sotong (B)
Crispy, rich, and perfectly coated
RM 38

The Rest of the Spread
Steamed Tilapia with Spicy Bean Sauce (1.6kg)
A massive fish that was well-cooked, though the Song Yi head still took the crown
 RM 76.80

Homemade Tofu (B) Silky and comforting
RM 28

Baby Spinach Soup (M)
A light, cleansing soup to balance the heavy flavors
RM 20

The Misses (Hit-and-Miss)
Ginger Steamed Chicken (Half)
Unfortunately, the meat was a bit on the tough side
RM 48

Four Heavenly King Vegetables (M)
While decent, it lacked the strong "sambal kick" and wok hei I usually look for in this dish
RM 30

The Vibe & Service
Located in the Pusat Penjaja Jalan Awan Hijau, Restoran LFF offers a classic, casual, open-air dining environment. It’s perfect for families who want a no-fuss meal without the "fancy restaurant" price tag. Despite being a busy neighborhood spot, the service was efficient, and the food arrived relatively quickly.

Total Bill With 9 Dishes, Rice & Chinese Tea
RM 392.80

Auntie Lilly’s Final Verdict
Will I be back? Yes! While some dishes were hit-and-miss, the Steamed Song Fish Head is enough of a reason to return. It’s rare to find such high-quality steamed fish at an RM33 price point in the city. If you’re visiting, I suggest sticking to their signature fish dishes and the crowd-favorite stir-frys like the Lala and Salted Egg Sotong.
