The highlight of Bilit; is the Kinabatangan River cruise. The Kinabatangan River is the Longest River in Sabah (with a length of 560 km) and the second-longest in Malaysia.
Depending on your preference to this; you can choose either an evening river cruise or an early morning river cruise or enjoy both of the cruises. Each river cruise set you on an adventure trail to experience first hand the remarkable wildlife and fascinating habitats along the bank of the river.
As we arrive at about 4pm, after a brief walk around the resort, we went for the leisurely evening river cruise. You can enjoy the cool breeze and forest fresh air that will relief all your body stresses.

Occasionally, the boatmen will stop the boat when they spotted some wildlife in action along the banks. At one of the stop, we spotted long-tail macaques happily doing their monkey business.
The Myne Resort is one of the Kinabatangan river accommodation that has 16 chalets which are built along the banks of the Kinabatangan river.

After dinner, it was time for another highlight itinerary which is the Night Safari Trek. As it was a walking tour, we were briefed on the trail by the guide.
Myne Resort Bilit - Night Safari
He will be trekking the Merbau Trail. The Merbau Trail is named after the more than 100-year-old Merbau Tree that you will be able to see during your trek.
This tree with a hole underneath is said to be a hiding place during World War II for villagers to hide their daughters from the Japanese soldiers inside the tree. To enter, you need to crawl into the tree but once inside, you'll be in awe with the fact that the tree is so big and hollow inside!

Inside the tree trunk, you will be amazed by the size of the trunk and the hollow trunk that perched to the top. This 100 years old Merbau tree is so wide that it can practically fit 10 people at one time.
We continued our trek and the next wonder we found during this night safari trekking is a hornbill nest with a pair of hornbill in a tree trunk. According to the guides, hornbills are always romantically inclined, so inside the nest, you will usually find a male and female bird in it.

Bringing your own torch is handy as you can explore and find other insects on leaves along the trail.
Wild boars are aplenty at the Myne Resort, You can see them virtually roaming at the resort come night time. They usually hang around the resort during this time and by the early morning, they will be gone. Note: please do not approach these wild boars.
The next morning, we started early. After a simple breakfast at the cafe, we head off for a morning river cruise.
We enjoyed the natural fresh morning air and the calm river as we travelled upstream seeking out with curiosity on what to expect.
In the morning, the Kinabatangan river will experience low tide, as therefore there is more to see on the river banks.

Soon, our boatmen made the first stop, where they were 2 crocodiles basking on the banks of the river waiting for its prey. One of the crocodiles is a full-blown adult and is at least 3 to 4 metre long.
It was truly an experience that we treasured. It was time to say goodbye to Bilit. After checking out from the Myne Resort we are now heading to Sandakan for more of this Back to Nature Borneo Adventure. Stay Tuned to the next Travel Blog post coming soon!
