McDonald's Malaysia Celebrates Being A Malaysian With Malaysian Nickname, MEKDI & Nasi Lemak McD

McDonald's Malaysia
Celebrates Being A Malaysian With Malaysian Nickname
MEKDI & Nasi Lemak McD
Greetings from 'MEKDI'. In conjunction with the MERDEKA and MALAYSIA DAY celebration, McDonald's Malaysia is celebrating its 37 years of being Malaysian by embracing the name 'MEKDI', the localized nickname for McD.

Affectionately given by Malaysians in short for McDonald's in Malaysia, the 'MEKDI' signage is now proudly displayed at the iconic McDonald's Bukit Bintang as McDonald's Malaysia celebrates being a Malaysian at heart for more than 3 decades in Malaysia.

35 Years Ago -My Dating Place At MEKDI

Auntie Lilly was feeling nostalgic to be back at McDonald's Bukit Bintang restaurant again, the first-ever McDonald's restaurant to open in Malaysia back in 1982. This was my regular dating place with my boyfriend and now hubby, Uncle Hong 35 years ago!

Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Malaysia, Melati Abdul Hai

“Over the past 37 years, Malaysians have helped make McDonald’s Malaysia the recognised brand that it is today. As a gesture of appreciation for their continuous support, we decided to embrace the Mekdi name Malaysians have affectionately given us, which is now synonymous with our brand,” said Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Malaysia, Melati Abdul Hai.

To celebrate its Malaysian-ness with all things Malaysian this Merdeka month of August, McDonald's Malaysia is excited to introduce its own version of the popular delicacy ~ NASI LEMAK McD to honour one of Malaysia's all-time-favourite cuisine.

 NASI LEMAK McD

NASI LEMAK McD comes complete with fragrant coconut milk rice, crispy anchovies, fresh slices of cucumber and a fried egg, topped with spicy sambal. Customers can also maximise their dining experience by adding on Ayam Goreng McD and a cup of Iced Lemon Tea.

Since opening its first store in Bukit Bintang in 1982, McDonald’s Malaysia is Malaysian at heart with an almost localised business - from its people, suppliers, franchisees, menu, community, and even charity initiatives in its 37 years of operations in Malaysia:
  • Localised Menu To Cater To Malaysian Taste Buds
  • Locally Sourced Ingredients
  • An All-Malaysian Workforce Restaurant (those directly owned by Gerbang Alaf Sdn Bhd)
  • Franchisees - 100% Malaysian
  • Grassroots Activities Focuses On Local Communities
  • Charity Efforts For Underprivileged Malaysian Children
Melati added, “While McDonald’s is one of the most renowned global brands, McDonald’s Malaysia prides itself in being a Malaysian company at heart. Our business focuses on Malaysians and understanding their needs, whether through our menu items, charity efforts, or nurturing our talent.”

Nasi Lemak Is My All-Time-Favourite Food To Eat
