At Pudu Plaza Kuala Lumpur
If you're a fan of traditional Chinese cuisine with a dash of nostalgia, Restoran Chef Wong at Pudu Plaza, Kuala Lumpur, is a must-visit. Formerly known as Hiong Kong Restaurant, this classic Chinese eatery has been a staple since 1969. It is notorious for serving one-of-a-kind traditional dishes that are hard to find elsewhere in the city.

Helmed by the experienced Chef Wong, diners are in for a treat with dishes that echo the flavors of a bygone era. My recent dining experience was nothing short of delightful, as I indulged in some of their signature offerings.

The Feast
Signature Special 5 Platter

This platter was a grand start to the meal. It offered a variety of flavors and textures, setting the stage for what was to come.

Crispy Deep-Fried Prawns

Chef Wong's signature platter is a lavish spread that features an array of delicacies: crispy fried prawns, a Yam basket filled with Kung Po chicken, century eggs, scallops, jellyfish, and succulent pork ribs.

Close-Up Photo Of The Lobster Salad

The star of the dish is the refreshing lobster salad. This is a signature dish at Restoran Chef Wong, so be sure to give it a try when you're visiting for the first time.

8 Treasures Duck

This dish, a true testament to Chef Wong’s culinary expertise, was rich, flavourful, and intricately prepared, showcasing the depth of traditional Chinese cooking. It's a rare dish, hardly available in many Chinese restaurants nowadays, as it's tedious to prepare. The other restaurant I know still serves this traditional dish is Sek Yuen Pudu.

Deep-fried chicken with Shrimp Paste

Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, this dish was a hit with its perfect balance of flavours. Another intricate dish to prepare is chicken meat replaced with shrimp paste and deep-fried until the skin turns crispy. Best eaten with their chili sauce for an extra kick.

Fish Maw Soup

Comforting and savory, this soup was the perfect warm-up, boasting a depth of flavour that only years of culinary experience can bring.

Stir-fry macadamia Nuts with Lotus Root

This refreshing and crunchy dish combines the earthiness of lotus root with the rich taste of macadamia nuts.

Candied Taro Sticks

These candied taro sticks were a delightful treat that ended the meal on a sweet note. Their unique texture and flavour left a lasting impression.

Restoran Chef Wong isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a culinary journey back in time, where classic flavors and traditional dishes are given new life. If you want to experience the essence of old-school Chinese cuisine, this is the place to be.
