Chequers Sweet & Savoury Waffles @TTDI Taman Tun Dr Ismail Kuala Lumpur

The Perfect
Savoury And Sweet Waffles
At Chequers

Despite having opened only in November last year, Chequers has already been getting rave reviews on the Internet for its savoury and sweet waffles that are not your run-of-the-mill standards. Branding themselves as the first American diner restaurant serving handmade savoury and sweet waffles using local premium and seasonal ingredients, you'll be surprise with their excellent choices of waffles dishes.

Tucked in a corner of shoplot of  along Jalan Aminuddin Baki, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, the cafe's cosy interior, friendly service and quality food has made it the neighbourhood's latest favourite hangout spot.

 Al-fresco Dining

Indoor Seating

Spacious and comfortable seating are available for its patrons to choose between the indoor air conditioned dining area or the bright  and cheery al-fresco dining area.

Famous La Cimbali Coffee Machine

Chequers offers a wide selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner items to whet your appetite ranging from appetisers, light eats, mains, salad, pasta to desserts or even a build your own waffles menu. Basically, one can be spoilt with many choices just trying to decide which type of waffles dishes to try out.

A unique-looking stair case leading to the upper floor which will be housing another part of Chequers operations into a pastry and bakery business soon.

Take A Look At Chequers' Menu: HERE

According to business partner, Michelle, Chequers' unique recipe uses quality butter leavened batter, resulting in feathery light and crispy golden waffles. The secret also lies in the process of making the batter where the chef 'meringue' the sugar and egg white together prior to adding the flour and butter.

Down Home Benny Breakfast
RM 19

My first tasting of Chequers' savoury waffles is the breakfast offering of  Down Home Benny, featuring savoury waffle, beef bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, guacamole and watercress salad.

Swirling the bit of waffles in the perfectly cooked egg, which oozed golden yellow yolk when sliced. I enjoyed eating the extra crispy waffles and its makes a perfect companion with the thick beef bacon with the well-poached creamy and runny egg yolks to soak the crispy waffles.

Double Deck Croque Monsieur Breakfast
RM 18

Another breakfast favourites to try out is the Double Deck Croque Monsieur. Consisting of savoury waffle sandwich with turkey ham and tomato wrapped with egg. Served with cheese sauce topped with a sunny side egg, this is an awesome comfort food item to try out if you are a great fan of French toast with lots of eggs!

Just check out the thick and generous portion of the egg, turkey ham and waffles in their serving. Great combination for a big hearty breakfast.

Signature Waffles Burger
Moo Moo Breakfast
RM 28

For beef or meat lovers, Moo Moo waffle burger lives up to its punny name. The savoury waffle has a sizeable house-made striploin beef patties which are pan seared to the right charred condition. Served with a special berry sauce and top with beef bacon, cheddar cheese, raisin slaw, pickled relish and waffle fries to complete the whole dining experience.

Despite common belief that waffles are light, airy snacks, the portion here are filling and can be taken as a meal on their own. The Moo Moo is highly recommended for its mouth-watering thick and chunky piece of premium gourmet beef patties to satisfy any beef lovers cravings!

Mains
Crusted Lamb Rack
RM 42

If you want to try some non-waffles dishes, Crusted Lamb Rack from their main course menu is my recommendation. Featuring pan-seared crusted lamb rack, served with mashed herb potatoes, roasted baby carrots and honey grain mustard sauce, meat lovers will definitely fall in love with this juicy-tasting lamb dish.

Lamb racks is pan-sear lightly to a nice pink keeping it tender and juicy and not tough while the mashed herb potatoes are well-seasoned, mashed together with its skin and really paired up wonderfully with the lamb.

Mains
Shroom Fiesta
RM 20

Non-meat dishes such as Shroom Fiesta makes an excellent choice for vegetarians from their mains menu. It's a spinach waffle with grilled portobello mushroom, glazed cherry tomatoes, top over with rocket salad, shaved parmesan and drizzle with balsamic reduction.

Melting Moments
RM 17

Chequers sweet range of waffles does not disappoint either. The Melting Moments is chocolate chip waffle serve with hand battered banana fritters, almond nibs, vanilla ice cream drizzled with caramel and chocolate sauce. It's my hubby favourite sweet waffle as the sweetness is just right for him and the chocolate sauce is rich and creamy.

Tropic Delight
RM 17

Last but not the least, Tropic Delight is a coconut waffle serve with fresh coconut meat, roasted almonds, coconut ice cream paired with fragrant pandan sauce. I simply love this combination of the waffle, coconut and pandan sauce, everything goes hand-in-hand with each other, making this one of the tastiest waffle dessert I have ever try.

Bite into this special coconut dessert waffle and you will be delighted with the coconuts shreds added into the waffles.

James’ Paradise

We round off our delicious brunch with some fruit smoothies and Chequers specials from their drinks menu. I wash down with refreshing drink of fresh mint, hint of lemon grass and lime. Named James’ Paradise, a good drink to take especially after a heavy meal of waffle treats.

Berry Berries Smoothies

Kiwi Banana Smoothies

If you are a great fan of waffles, you will be definitely be amazed with Chequers' waffles inspired creations of their chefs. Savours flavours of every kind from sweet to savoury with contrasting textures or flavours to please your senses. For me, I fell in love with their desserts; their waffle is great-tasting, light and crisp while the ice cream is of premium grade so tasty and creamy. Bon Appetite!
