A Taste Of American-Chinese Cuisine In A Spoon
Located in suburban shopping mall at Setiawalk, Puchong, Big Spoon is drawing in the crowds with its American-Chinese cuisine served in a spoon with its chewy cold noodles, dumplings and light snack.
Casual & Spacious Dining
Big Spoon has a simple and no-frills interior with a minimalist interior of wooden tables and bench like chairs for seating. With its spacious and clean environment, great place to dine especially for those looking for a quick and fast meal to satisfy your hunger.
I checked out Big Spoon for lunch and found diners ordering up a ridiculous number of spoonfuls noodles at the dining table. Anyway, I was served with the following food items during this food tasting session, so here goes:
~ Big Spoon's Signature ~
Cold Chicken Noodles
Big Spoon's Signature Cold Chicken Noodles are served with shredded chicken and julienne cucumber, drizzled with a flavourful house made sauce and light sprinkling of fragrant sesame seeds. The cold noodle is best eaten with some seasoning oil for extra flavour - bitter Szechuan pepper oil and spicy chilli oil. I had a dash of the hot chilli oil for extra kick and flavour to spice up my dish. Mix it up and start slurping away....
~ Favourite Dish Of The Day ~
Strawberry Butter Cream Prawns
Big size wild catch sea prawns from South China Sea cooked to perfection to ensure the best texture and freshness. Served with butter cream sauce which is sweet and savoury. Garnish with strawberry to cut through the richness and bring out the flavour of the prawns.
Delicate texture of the prawn is infused with sweet and sourish strawberry butter cream sauce, such that it melts in the mouth and leave a savoury after taste. Well-executed dish!
Tomatoes In Sweet Osmanthus Sauce
One of the most popular appetizers during summer. Chilled tomatoes tossed with home made osmanthus glaze to give it a refreshing sweet and sour taste with subtle fragrance of osmanthus to stimulate appetite in a hot summer afternoon. Light and refreshing starter, but could have been better if it comes with a stronger flavour of the sweet osmanthus glaze.
Fresh, crisp, and cold combination of iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and fried Wonton skin. Drizzled with oriental flavour salad dressing made from soy sauce, peanut butter, vinegar, sugar, and black bean hot sauce.
Pan Fried Dumplings
Pan fried north east china handmade dumplings stuffed with minced chicken and napa cabbage. Goes well together with house special black bean hot sauce or the combination of vinegar and house special hot oil.
Fried Spring Roll
Iconic item on menu of Chinese restaurant in America. Hand made deep fried spring roll, well-fried with crispy spring roll skin but lacks flavour in the fillings. Recommended to be eaten with the house special dipping sauce for the extra flavour.
Crispy Taro Roll
A home made hot snack stuffed with taro root paste. Made using natural ingredients without artificial colouring nor flavouring, the taro roll with two ends of fragrant sesame seed are fried to perfection before being served. Best eaten, hot or warm.
Golden Pear Essence Dessert
A 3 hours-slow-cooked clear soup with fresh pear, white fungus, wolf berries and rock sugar. A soothing and tummy warming healthy dessert to end a meal especially if you have eaten lots of fried food items. Comes with generous portion of white fungus and wolf berries. making it a satisfying dessert to end my dining experience at Big Spoon.
All in all, Big Spoon is decent place to dine if you're looking for some simple, unfussy, fresh and fast dining experience to eat with your family and friends. Serving portions are rather small, so be ready to order around 6 to 8 spoonfuls for a full-filling meal. Their dishes are simple and easy to cook, nothing spectacular but its the fun and novelty experience that appeals to many when eating out of this gigantic cutlery - The Big Spoon!
