Buns & Meat @Lake Fields Sungai Besi Kuala Lumpur ~ Burgers & Hot Dogs

Burgers & Hotdogs To Please All Tastebuds
~ BUNS & MEAT ~
As the gourmet burger wave catches on in Klang Valley, the founder-proprietor of Bites Cafe (a breakfast & coffee joint) decided to go in a slightly different direction by introducing "Buns & Meat" to the city's diners. Starting the menu with 20 over items - Gourmet burgers, hot dogs, pasta, pork ribs, pizzas, soup and salad - Robin Lim tested and tried out their recipes before introducing it into the menu.

Buns & Meat's setting is simple - soothing, relax and casual environment for family and friends to gather and dine. A perfect place for a tete-a-tete with comfortable lounge area with sofas and couches, contemporary dining space, coupled with a breezy al fresco section, perfect for a weekend brunch.

Buns & Meat's fresh and modern decor sets the mood for this stylish bar with high stools and a long bar.

A great hang out place to unwind where you can spend hours eating and chatting with your family and friends over delicious meals. Besides, you can also enjoy playing a game or two with the electronic darts machine available here.

Darts Lounge

Tastefully decorated with unique and vintage knick & knack adds to personal touches to Buns & Meat

Super cute Little Piglet on the cake shelf

A swanky place for drinks with a long list of jovial beverages such as beers, whiskies, tequilas, gins, rums, vodkas, wines, mocktails and cocktails to get you boozy. Casual atmosphere where you can experience dine and drink with family, friends or entertaining large groups.

Buns & Meat's owner Robin Lim aims to give customers a brand new burger experience with selections of pork or chicken gourmet burgers served with pasta & ham salad with fries on the side. Customers will be able to choose among six scrumptious choices - as follows:

We were served with the 4 varieties of burgers at one go, but I shall review them in the order of the BEST to the LEAST favourite based on my personal preference and taste.
 Runny Mess
RM 20.90

Top in my list is an awesomely messy but delicious - Runny Mess. Buns & Meat's signature home made pork and bacon patty topped with a poached egg and covered with cheesy sauce. The meat itself is not too dry, leaving enough juices to soak with the melted cheese and runny poached egg. The 160 gm patty is sure to fill up even the most hungry of diners. The burger comes with a crispy helping of fries too. Highly recommended for pork and egg lovers!

 Spicy Korean Ribs Burger
RM 16.90

Ranking 2nd Best is the  Spicy Korean Ribs Burger. Sandwiched between two buttery bun is a flavourful de-boned pork ribs meat topped with Korean spicy glaze and heaped with lettuce, onions and tomatoes slices.  Considerably fancier, with slightly different ingredients compared to the base pork patty and pork bacon cheese burger.

Buns & Meat - Buttery Burger Bun

Worth mentioning is Robin managed to get a reliable source for his special burger bun made according to his personal in-house recipe and special requirement. In fact, I would loved eating Buns & Meat's burger bun by itself as it was smelling so sweet and buttery, great to be eaten if dip in my favourite local black 'kopi' .....

Grilled Chicken Burger with Cheese & Black Pepper
RM 16.90

Chicken lovers or non-pork eater will love this Grilled Chicken Burger with Cheese & Black Pepper. For this chicken burger, the patty is mouthwatering grilled chicken thigh topped with black pepper sauce together with lettuce, onions and tomatoes. The taste is further enhanced with additions such the house made black pepper sauce.

Char Siew Burger
RM 16.90

Another interesting creation at Buns & Meat is the Char Siew Burger. Nestled between two buttery burger bun, the Char Siew Burger features a juicy house made pork patty, sweet roasted pork Char siew, melted cheese drizzled with mayonnaise , and loaded with crispy lettuce, fresh tomato and onion.

Robin added that he decided to go in a slightly direction by introducing Asian infused burgers to the city's diners. He tweaked and make some adjustment to suit the local tastes, modify the western style burgers with various seasoning and ingredients, such as Pork Char siew for local palates.

A bit on the saltier side due to the char siew sauce toppings but you can tell the waiter to go low on the sauce when ordering. Other than that, this enormous burger that is wider than the human jaw tasted just awesome with the ingredients blend together very well. The Char Siew Burger would be popular and enjoyable among the pork Char siew lovers.

Buns & Meat also offers an array of other items such as hot dogs, pork ribs, pasta, pizza, desserts and side orders. We sampled 5 various types of delicious pork hot dogs with different kind of exciting toppings on the menu.

Hot Dog with Sauteed Mushroom & Black Pepper Sauce
RM 15.90

Hot Dog with Jalapenos BBQ Slaw
RM 16.90

Mac & Cheese Hot Dog
RM 17.90

Hot Dog with Nacho Cheese Sauce
RM 14.90

Hot Dog with Pork Bacon Baked Beans
RM 17.90

Spicy Korean Pork Ribs
RM 42.90

Perfect flavour of Spicy Korean Pork Ribs, something different from the usual. The fork-tender meat was bursting with spicy flavours of the spices it was marinated and cooked in. Coated with gooey, spicy and savoury layer of Korean sauce, it were licked clean that night and finger-licking good too. Although it was served with fries, I was prefer it with creamy mash potatoes to balance out the taste.

Signature BBQ Pork Ribs
RM 44.90

Traditionally cooked classic BBQ Pork Ribs with a tender texture infused with savoury, smoky flavour waking up our taste buds. The ribs tasted even better than it looked and best enjoyed with your bare hands.

Pulled Pork Fries
RM 11.90

Now for a little twist to the burger and fries, Buns & Meat offers something different - Porki-li-cious Pulled Pork Fries. Dig in to a new lip-smacking experience with crispy, hot fries topped with tender slowed-cooked Spicy Pulled Pork Fries.

Pork Bacon Aglio-olio
RM 16.90

Classic and simple all-time-favourite, a light pasta dish of penne cooked with fried pork bacon, mushroom, herbs and chopped dried chillies for added spiciness. It had the right balance with the smoky saltiness of streaky pork bacon to satisfy any pasta or ham addicts !

Salted Peanut Butter Cake
RM 13.90

Bailey's Cheese Cake
RM 13.90

Perfect Combination: Coffee & Cakes

Our dessert came in the form of home-made cakes - Salted Peanut Butter Cake and Bailey's Cheese Cake. Both were perfect ending to our pleasing and satisfying porki-licious dining experience in Buns & Meat!

Overall, Buns & Meat is definitely worth trying if you're a burger and pork lovers. You can be assured of a great meal of tasty gourmet pork burgers, BBQ pork ribs, premium German pork sausages, pork loaded pizzas and many more excellent choices to choose from. Bon Appetite !

Best of the Best Claypot Mouse Noodles @ Yoke Heng in Seri Kembangan by FollowMeToEatLa

Must-Try Dish Claypot Mouse Noodles - Imperial Pot Hong Kong Dim Sum in Sri Hartamas Klang Valley
   Must-Try Dish Claypot Mouse Noodles
RM 7

Restaurant Yoke Heng is a typical no frills & pretty well known eatery nestled in Seri Kembangan. This place is famous for their Clay pot Mouse Noodles (Nga pou lou shu fun) which is the main dish every single patrons would ordered. Be it lunch or dinner, it has always been their best seller. It's their star and signature dish.

Unlike any other clay pot mouse noodles which is cooked with black sauce, their version is infused with a lighter broth, almost a braised version. A very thick concoction of eggy sauce, the tasty broth is loaded with minced pork & dried prawns that gave the extra crispy texture. Best eaten with a dash of the black vinegar as it adds unique flavour to the soup, a blend of sweetness and saltiness, and slightly sourish because of the vinegar.

My hubby's favourite as he personally named it the 'Special Shark fin Loh Shu Fun' because of the smoothness, flavourful eggy soup with the slippery noodles. Price is reasonable too as a big tasty pot even to feed two (if you re small eater) costs RM 7.00 for a single or small pot. Remember not to order the big pot as it's doubled the price - RM 14.00 but servings does not equal to it. Wiser to order 2 smaller pots, therefore you end up having more in servings. But beware of the lady boss, (the plump lady) she's kind of rude & once get annoyed with us when we ordered 4 single small pots for a table of 5. Anyway, no fear just 'taruh' her balik & tell her who's the customer!

Succulent Honey Pork Ribs Wrapped in Foil - Imperial Pot Hong Kong Dim Sum in Sri Hartamas Klang Valley
Succulent Honey Pork Ribs Wrapped in Foil
RM 28

This is my all-time favourite honey pork ribs which I can never have enough of. It's Yoke Heng's Signature Dish where this honey glazed succulent ribs are wrapped in the aluminium foil to preserve the heat. Tender texture infused with a savoury, smoky flavour, a sweet and sourish tangy sauce, it was definitely a friendly companion with the rice. There is a melt-in-the-mouth experience that I could not stop eating them. Highly recommended for pork lovers .

Aromatic Herbal Chicken - Imperial Pot Hong Kong Dim Sum in Sri Hartamas Klang Valley
   Aromatic Herbal Chicken

This is my first trying out this particular Herbal Chicken dish at Yoke Heng Restaurant. My regular dishes every time are none other than their Signature clay pot mouse noodles & the unforgettable Honey Pork Ribs in Foil for my family & I. Well, so happen we're entertaining our long-time close friends from Singapore that day, so we decide that we should go out of our 'comfort zone' & order something else instead.

When we unwrapped the chicken parcel, the dining table is fill with wonder aroma of the herbs. The fragrance from the aromatic herbs just permeates through & the taste of the ingredients cooked in chicken come forth instead of being overwhelmed by it .

Very well cooked with lots of herbs like the wolfberries (kei chee), angelica root (dong kwai), red dates, yok chuk & many more for a flavourful healthy dish. The sauce flavour penetrate fully into the meat which is pleasing to the palate. Good to eat with rice. If you have not tried this before, it is about time to do so!

Tasty Stir fry Lala with Garlic & Chillie Padi
RM 15

Stir fry Lala or Clams is cooked with garlic, chillie padi & generous amount of dried shrimps. Loaded with 'wok hei', it's definitely a prefect dish that is sure to please seafood or lala lovers. It's fragrant, spicy & full of garlicky flavour, good enough to eat on it's own as it's not too salty. Well, I can tell you that the lala tasted even better than it looked in my picture!

Stir Fry Sweet Potatoes Leaves - Imperial Pot Hong Kong Dim Sum in Sri Hartamas Klang Valley
 Stir Fry Sweet Potatoes Leaves

My two thumbs down for this lousy dish. Simple & easy dish to cook but the chef failed miserably in frying this vegetable dish. What lacking is the 'wok hei', tasteless & quite oily too. The saving factor is that the serving is generous. Anyhow, since we are not in the habit of wasting food, everyone somehow managed to finish it clean but vowed not to order it any more.

All in all, Yoke Heng is a good place to dine with your family weekend outings. Just stick to the favourites like Mouse Noodles, Pork ribs and their Lala, other than that everything else is mediocre.
