Happy Garden in Jalan Kuchai Lama used to the place I frequent a lot during my younger days when I drop by to visit my late mom-in-law with my husband. I first heard about Lucy Stall from my MIL when she used to tapau for us during the odd hours in the afternoon at around 2 to 3 pm.

You see, Lucy Stall been around for more than 4 decades. A typical family business running from the home of Madam Lucy Kok Siew Ling where she starts and operates her Pan Mee noodles stall from her strategic corner single story house in Happy Garden. It's also a stone-throw away from the morning market. Hence named after her name, it's called Lucy Stall!

Madam Lucy was taken over by his son, Chai Kok Wah, who runs the stall by himself nowadays. Lucy Stall has its regulars that would come to savour the delicious home-style cooking of Pan Mee either in soup or the fried version.

You can opt for the classic Soup Pan Mee or their extra Special Fried Pan Mee.  All Pan Mee is made fresh upon order. Please be patient as Uncle Chai is manning the stall alone - he takes the order, prepares the dough for pressing into noodles, cooks it and to serve it to customers.

You may notice that he's a bit slow as he works around with shaky hands. A short chat with him reveals that he's suffering from Parkinson (poor Uncle) but nevertheless, he shares that he's seeking treatment from the public hospital for quite some time.

Ingredients of pork, fish cakes and cabbage go into the wok for frying. What I like about the Fried Pan Mee at Lucy Stall is that Uncle Chai is quite generous with the vegetables, which happens to be my top request especially when eating fried noodles!

For the final act, Uncle Chai tossed in the freshly homemade Pan Mee where it'll be fried till dry with black soy sauce and sayur manis in high heat and full-of-wok-hei.

Everyone loves his Fried Pan Mee for its a la dente texture, springy to the bite and with each strand of Pan Mee well-coated in thick dark soy sauce gravy, just like the Hokkien Mee. Oh yes, crispy and fragrant anchovies or ikan bilis are added as toppings giving the crunchy and salty flavour to the 'already tasty Pan Mee'.

Remember to eat your Fried Pan Mee with their homemade chilli sauce which packs a punch. Add on as much as you can for the extra kick of spiciness. If you have stomach for more, you can order a bowl of pork balls with soup on the side. Yums-Yums!

Apart from the fried Pan Mee, you can also try the soup version. It's a simple classic Soup Pan Mee, cooked very home-style with flavourful clear broth soup. My son loves the chewy and springy texture of the noodles served with a generous portion of sayur manis and crispy fried ikan bilis.

The location is quite easy to find - just look out for a corner single story house with the signage - Lucy Stall with the road sign of 'Jalan Selesa 1, 58200 Kuala Lumpur' right next to the house.

Watch out for Lucy Stall's longtime residence, pet dog to Uncle Chai which doesn't look too friendly and might bite if you get too close to the entrance of the house. Anyhow, do come by to try one of KL's best and unique Fried Pan Mee if you happen to be around the area at Old Klang Road!
