Some moments in life feel truly precious; for me, one happened recently. I had the most heartwarming family reunion with my dearest sister's family, my nephews, and their extended families. With family flying in from as far as Canada and Saudi Arabia, having everyone under one roof felt like a little miracle. The air was thick with stories, boisterous laughter, and an overwhelming sense of love. It’s so rare to have all 16 of us together in one place, and I cherished every second.

When it came time for dinner, the consensus was clear: everyone was craving delicious, comforting, homestyle food. As the designated food guide, I knew exactly where to go. I brought them to my all-time favourite neighbourhood gem, Restoran Wai Kei on Old Klang Road.

The Feast: A Taste of Home
Wai Kei has never let me down; this time was no exception. The dishes were spot-on, tasting just like a home-cooked meal made with love. My nephew, craving local flavours, praised the food and said all his cravings were completely satisfied!

Here’s a look at the incredible spread we devoured:

Hakka Yong Tau Foo (RM2 per piece)

Hakka Yong Tau Foo (RM2 per piece): An absolute must-order. Each piece is generously stuffed and perfectly cooked. It’s a steal at this price, and you can’t help but order more.

Chinese Poached Chicken / Pak Cham Kai
RM 100

Chinese Poached Chicken / Pak Cham Kai (RM 100): The star of the show. This wasn't just any chicken; it was a "big-fat chicken," poached to perfection. The meat was incredibly smooth and juicy, served with the classic ginger and chili dip.

Deep-fried Threadfin Fish / Mau Yau
RM 70 for 800g

Deep-fried Threadfin Fish / Mau Yau (RM 70 for 800g): This was a flavour explosion. The fish was fried to a delightful crisp while remaining moist and flaky inside. It was simply drizzled with a high-quality soya sauce and topped with a fragrant mix of chopped scallions, coriander leaves, and chillies that elevated the dish beautifully.

Braised Pork Trotters in Black Vinegar
RM 45

Braised Pork Trotters in Black Vinegar (RM 45): A classic comfort dish done right. The trotters were fall-off-the-bone tender, swimming in a rich, tangy, sweet black vinegar sauce that had us reaching for more rice.

Stir-Fry Sweet Potato Leaves
RM 30

Stir-Fry Sweet Potato Leaves (RM 30): This essential but straightforward dish balances the feast. It is perfectly stir-fried with just the right amount of garlic and flavour.

Auntie Lilly's Final Verdict
After our wonderful dinner, both my heart and my stomach were full. It was a sight to behold to see all 16 of us sharing stories and laughter over a delicious meal. This Auntie (or "Ah Yee," as they call me!) was beaming with happiness.

Overall, Restoran Wai Kei remains a top recommendation for anyone seeking authentic, delicious food at very reasonable prices. It’s a no-frills establishment that focuses on what truly matters: the food quality.

Pro-Tip: Weekends get incredibly busy, so be prepared to wait a little longer for a table and your food to arrive. But trust me, the wait is a small price for a satisfying meal. Highly recommended by Auntie Lilly at FollowMeToEatLa Food Blogger!
