MINAMOTONOYA CAFE ~ Fusion Japanese Cafe At Bandar Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur

Modern Take On Japanese Delights
At
MINAMOTONOYA CAFE
Hidden in the suburban Bandar Sri Petaling lies a gem of a fusion Japanese cafe called Minamotonoya Cafe. Previously located at the Glass City at Bandar Sri Petaling, this chic cafe has been making a name of its own with the super cute and Instagram-able water mochi or better known as Mizu Shingen Mochi in Japanese.

Everyone was going goo-goo gaga over the amazingly cute water Mizu Mochi; a creative combination of art and food with the clever use of pretty imported Japanese plates with motifs of Kitty, Rabbit or Teddy bear feature.

Simple Yet Tasty Dishes

Well, I'm back here again at their new place with an invite from my cute blogger friend, Tommy Tong. It's especially nice to see Chef cum owner, Nexus Wong again after 1.5 years hiatus since my last visit to his cafe when it was newly opened. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to tasting and review his new offerings from his new menu this time around.

New Drinks Menu
Latest Creation ~ Ice Hill Mojito Sphere
 Ice Hill Mojito Sphere
RM 15.90

Chef Nexus taking a new step into the brave new world of mixology; introducing his all new Ice Hill Mojito Sphere at Minamotonoya Cafe.

Something new, something different for many who has yet to try this go-to mixed drink. This unusual mojito made out of frozen juice sphere with 3 types of combination to choose from. Soda water or carbonated water is poured over just before drinking and you let the ice sphere melts slowly to infuse the drink. Truly refreshing, plus so much fun to look at as it's to make and drink, definitely be a hit at any party!

 Watermelon Mojito

Orange & Mint Mojito

My Favourite Choice
Lime & Mint Mojito

Oh yes, you must be wondering why is there smoke coming out from? This is part of the fun to drinking this special Ice Hill Mojito Sphere. Dry ice is placed underneath and lemon-infused water is pour in to give out the fogging effect with a nice lemon scent to refresh your senses.

Have fun with the mysterious fog rolling out of them while sipping your refreshing cooling mojito sphere after a long work day or over the weekends with friends.

Maybe it's time you get a little adventurous if you are bored with your usual juices or latte, the kind of drink you're comfortable with that you know you'll enjoy. Give it a try, order your favourite combination for some new and exciting ways of experiencing flavours!

Tori Kaarge
RM 11.90

A classic Japanese dish is the Tori Karaage or Chicken Karaage. Tender thigh and drumstick chicken meat are only used for this dish. Simple yet appetising deep-fried marinated chicken pieces make an excellent starter for any meal.

Chef clever use of Japanese seasonings like shoyu plus some minced ginger does wonder to the chicken and goes extremely well with the mayonnaise.   My thumbs up for the Chicken Kaarage, it's moist, tender and juicy; you will be delighted with the aromatic, crispy boneless chicken and great starter dish to tempt your taste buds!

 Egg With Jelly Furitake Don
RM 14.90

This fusion rice dish is an absolute winner. A comfort food classic with warm, fluffy Japanese rice and scrambled egg, you will enjoy this heart-warming goodness of the flavourful delights perfectly paired with the special Jelly Furitake. It's the square jelly-like cube resting on top of the rice dish.

Chef Nexus explained that the core of the flavour lies in the housemade jelly furitake, which is a special concoction he created. He perfected the jelly with long hours of boiling chicken wings with shoyu, mirin and sake to get the right texture - turning into a  tasty and savoury jelly collagen for his rice dish.

Highly recommended for egg and rice lovers, the Egg With Jelly Furitake Don is certainly a winner in terms of taste and texture!

 Chashu Don
RM 19.90

Another favourite dish for many, the Chashu Don or  Char Siew (Braised Pork Belly) is both comforting and wholesome dish to savour. It's served with generous portion of melt-in-your-mouth juicy, tender, and flavorful slices of braised pork belly over warm Japanese rice, topped with a tamago. My son and I really enjoy its smoky flavour that hits all the right tones. Thumbs for that!

 Japanese Curry Tori Katsu Rice
RM 18.90

Those wanting something more filling can opt for Japanese Curry Tori Katsu Rice. A good portion of good grade chicken thigh meat lightly marinated and 'bathe' with Japanese breadcrumbs (panko) and deep fried to perfection.

I'm never a fan of the sweet and creamy Japanese curry sauce as I never really enjoy eating it. As a true Malaysia, I still love my Malay or Indian curries rich with mixed spices and fresh herbs which is lacking in the authentic Japanese sweet curry.

Chaliapin Steak Don
RM 22.90

Chaliapin Steak Don is another delectable option to try for meat lovers especially if you love steak. Marinated beef steak pan-fried rest on top of the steaming Japanese rice and served with chopped scallions and stewed chopped onions and preserved Japanese plum.

The sourish flavour from the preserved plum didn't go on too well with my tastebuds. I'm not a big fan of beef either so I did not really enjoy the beef rice. Nevertheless, the serving portion of the steak is just right, value for money dish so to say.

Leading us off the Don or rice dishes trail for a bit, Chef Nexus has also prepared some heavenly Cheese cakes for us to try. These are the Japanese Cheese Cake, mild and smooth with melt-in-mouth texture, bound to make any cheese lovers goes for a second helping!

Orange Cheese Cake
RM 15.90

If you are new to Japanese Cheese Cake, you should give Minamotonoya Cafe's Cheese Cake a try. Light, smooth and simply irresistible, a heavenly melt-in-the-mouth dessert.

Blueberry Cheese Cake
RM 15.90

Made from premium Philadelphia cream cheese, this 'No-Baked' Japanese cheesecake is a good choice for those looking to taste a light cream cheesecake unlike the rich and heavy kind.

 Tofu Cheese Cake
RM 9.90

Smooth and creamy, not too cheesy ~ a little out of the ordinary but it's sure to be a hit with many. Now they come in three flavours such as famous Tofu, Blueberry and even Orange too. So take your pick to have a sweet ending to your dining in this little quaint cafe!

 Cute Water Mochi
RM 6.90

The Water mochi is also known as Mizu Shingen Mochi, clear rice cake dessert resembling an enormous water drop. A Japanese-style dessert made from gyuhi served with kinako soybean powder (roasted soya bean powder) and eaten with brown sugar syrup poured over it.

Take your pick and choose the cutest plate motif you like best. Truly a creative combination of art and food with the clever use of cutlery to enhance this cute and clear, jelly-like cake. Loving the adorable too pretty to eat Mizu Mochi. Simply one of the most Instagram-able dessert too!

All-in-all, I have a pleasant dining experience at Minamotonoya Cafe since I last ate here. They have revamped their menu with more rice dishes to cater to local  taste buds. I would definitely come back for their Egg With Jelly Furitake Don,  Chashu Don and perhaps have the sinful pleasure of just snacking on the Tori Karaage, just for myself... no sharing this time!

If you're looking for something new and different kind of Japanese fusion food to taste, come by Minamotonoya Cafe and be surprised with Chef Nexus's culinary delights! Bon Appetite XOXO !

Raving About Mushroom Breakfast Brunch
Porto Bello offers Creative and Tasty Breakfast Set
Porto Bello at Damansara Uptown invited me and my foodies' friends for another round of food tasting recently. For this session, we sampled Porto Bello's Brunch Sets which are only available on weekends at the moment ~ Saturday, Sunday and public holidays till 5pm.

Diners have the choice to choose from Set A, B or C with the option of an add-on of  RM 5 for any type of coffee. Synonymous with the cafe's name, the tasty Porto Bello mushroom or wild mushroom are incorporated in all three of their Brunch Sets.

 Porto Bello Sunrise
RM 21.90

The Crowd Favourite for the Day was Porto Bello Sunrise. Simply a wholesome fare of chicken ham with Bechamel Sauce resting on a big and juicy Porto Bello mushroom and topped with sunny-side-up. Served together with a choice of either turkey ham or streaky beef, garden fresh salad, hash brown and a cup of baked beans with melted mozzarella cheese toppings.

You will love the rich and pure flavour of the Bechamel sauce that goes so well with the chicken ham, Porto Bello mushroom and the runny egg yolk. It's also known as the white sauce is made from a roux and milk. It is one of the mother sauces of French cuisine and Italian cuisine. Truly a yummy and wholesome fare, thus it's an add-on list of Auntie Lilly's comfort food.

Volcano Surprise
RM 21.90

Next was the Volcano Surprise, another wholesome Italian infused breakfast. Chicken Bolognese sandwiched in between juicy Porto Bello mushroom and sunny-side-up. Comes with a choice of either turkey ham or streaky beef, garden fresh salad, hash brown and a cup of baked beans with melted mozzarella cheese toppings.

An appetising breakkie to check out if you are a hardcore Bolognese sauce lovers. Tummy filling with ooey-gooey runny egg yolks, this is another lip-smacking bite to try.

Big Breakfast Set
RM 21.90

Last was the Big Breakfast Set which comes with a total of 9 varieties of break-kie favourites such as premium German sausages, turkey ham or streaky beef, sauteed wild mushrooms (brown shimeji, white shimeji, shiitake mushroom, oyster and king oyster mushroom), roast tomatoes, hash brown, scrambled egg or sunny-side-up, baked beans, garden salad and wholemeal toast.

Diners can choose to have either Premium Beef or Vienna Chicken sausages with the set. A complete and full-filling breakfast, perfect to keep your day going and a must-have breakfast for the super hungry diners too!

Bar Lounge

Not forgetting the drinks, you can choose to have the following beverages while dining at Porto Bello. They have an in house barista by the name of Kok Foo, a young chap busy preparing and pulling the shots, serving a wide selection of coffee, tea, juices and other beverages.
