The Oriental Group Presents "Makan Makan Malaysia: Chapter 1":
An 8-Course Fine Cantonese Heritage Feast for August 2026
Malaysia’s culinary scene is a vibrant mosaic of diverse regional flavors, town-famous specialties, and rich heritage recipes. In conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, The Oriental Group of Restaurants—renowned for setting the benchmark in fine Cantonese dining across Malaysia—presents a limited-time gastronomic spectacle: "Makan Makan Malaysia: Chapter 1," a grand dinner tour running through August 2026, a curated dining experience celebrating Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage, featuring eight dishes crafted by their top chefs.
Auntie Lilly had the privilege of attending an exclusive media review to preview this grand menu alongside Sous Chef Roy and the group's talented culinary team. Master Chefs across the group have meticulously selected legendary local ingredients and regional flavors from across the peninsula and East Malaysia, interpreting them through precision Cantonese techniques.
Here is a full look at what you can expect from this extraordinary 8-course banquet!
STARTER: Appetisers from all over the Peninsula
The feast opens with a vibrant platter showcasing distinct regional bites:
Iberico Pork Neck Satay:
Tender, richly marbled Iberico pork neck grilled to smoky perfection with classic satay spices.
Crispy Muar Seafood Otak-otak Roll:
A delicate, crispy roll filled with spiced, fragrant seafood otak-otak inspired by Johor’s famous specialty.
Fire-roasted Cameron Highlands' Sweet Corn:
Naturally sweet corn roasted over high heat to draw out its caramel notes.
Forest-Picked Paku Pakis Salad with Traditional Dressing:
Fresh, crisp wild jungle fern tossed in a zingy, traditional dressing.
MAIN COURSES: Heritage Masterpieces
Double-boiled Sarawak White Pepper Shark's Fin Soup in Cameron Highlands' White Radish
This soul-warming broth features premium white pepper from Sarawak double-boiled with white radish from Cameron Highlands. The pepper's warmth gently hits the palate without overpowering the broth's natural sweetness.
Tanjung Tualang is world-famous for its succulent freshwater prawns. Here, huge, snappy prawns are wok-tossed in a deep, savory glaze elevated by The Oriental Group’s signature 18-month-aged Top Grade Light Soya Sauce, selling at RM 38+ at their restaurants.
Steamed Pantai Remis Pomfret, Qilin Style
Fresh pomfret sourced from Pantai Remis is carefully sliced and layered Qilin-style with ham and mushrooms, then gently steamed to preserve its silky texture.
Signature Nanyang Curry Roasted Suckling Pig
A true showstopper on the table! Crisp, shatteringly light-roasted suckling pig skin paired with a rich, aromatic Nanyang curry reduction that adds a bold local twist to classic Chinese roast meats.
Local Organic Free-range Chicken with Ipoh Bean Sprouts & Melaka Rice Ball
A refined tribute to classic chicken rice culture! Smooth, poached local organic chicken served with plump Ipoh bean sprouts, fragrant Melaka-style rice balls, and minced ginger-and-chili dips.
DESSERT: A Sweet Local Finish
Musang King Durian Pudding
Silky, chilled pudding rich with the unmistakable aroma and creamy richness of real Musang King durian.
