NONG & JIMMY Thai BBQ Seafood Restaurant In Imbi Kuala Lumpur

Savouring Flavours Of Southern Thai Delights At
NONG & JIMMY: A 30-Year Legacy In Imbi Now!
During my recent visit to Nong & Jimmy Thai BBQ Seafood Restaurant in Imbi, I experienced the legacy of this 30-year-old establishment firsthand. What stands out most about Nong & Jimmy is its authentic Southern Thai flavours, crafted by Uncle Jimmy himself. My family and I indulged in a delicious array of Southern Thai dishes, all expertly prepared with rich, authentic flavours.

NONG & JIMMY (IMBI) THAI BBQ
39, Jalan Inai, Imbi
55000 Kuala Lumpur
Open Daily 12noon To 11pm
Reservations: 016-331 3996

Originally founded in 1994 as Kuala Lumpur’s first Thai BBQ seafood restaurant, Nong & Jimmy has long been a local favorite for many decades. This second outlet near TRX is just a 5-minute walk from the Uniqlo & Muji exit, perfectly capturing the essence of the restaurant's 30-year-old culinary legacy, initially founded in 1994.

Miang Kham Appetizer
RM 36

We started with the Miang Kham Appetizer, a traditional Thai snack that wraps fresh betel leaves around a mixture of dried shrimp, peanuts, lime, and coconut shavings. The flavours burst in every bite, creating a sweet, salty, and tangy burst. It's the perfect starter to set the stage for the meal.

Signature Grilled Crab
(Market Price)

The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Grilled Crab, their signature dish that genuinely lives up to its reputation with smoky, charred perfection and a robust blend of Thai spices. The crab was grilled to smoky perfection, with the succulent meat infused with a delightful charred flavour and the delicate balance of Thai spices that lingered long after each bite. No wonder this has become a local favourite dish that has won over locals for decades.

Grilled Salted Tilapia
RM 65

The Grilled Salted Tilapia was another standout. The fish, delicious and fresh baked in a salt crust, was incredibly tender and moist, with a subtle smokiness that paired beautifully with a tangy Thai dipping sauce. Every bite felt like a nod to authentic Southern Thai cooking, with fresh ingredients treated with care.

Grilled Squid
RM 39

Grilled Cockles
RM 22

Grilled Lemongrass Chicken (5 Sticks)
RM 24

We also indulged in their Grilled Squid, Grilled Cockles, and Lemongrass Chicken, all delicious and fresh off the grill, complemented by bold flavours of lemongrass and chili. All grilled items come with two housemade dipping sauces, which can be a bit spicy—fiery to the tongue!

Thai Dancing Herb Fish
(Market Price)

One of the standout dishes I tried at Nong & Jimmy was the Thai Dancing Herb Fish—A crispy masterpiece packed with bold Thai flavours. The fish was deep-fried to golden perfection, creating a delightful crunch with every bite.

What truly elevated the dish was the refreshing combination of zesty lemon juice, lime, and fish sauce, paired with aromatic lemongrass, ginger, and a medley of red and white onions. The kick of chili added just the right amount of heat, balancing out the tangy and savoury notes. This dish is a must-try for seafood lovers craving authentic Thai flavours!

Tom Yam Seafood (Red)
RM 38

The Tom Yam Seafood (Red), a Nong & Jimmy's gem, is a must-try for anyone craving bold, authentic Thai flavours. Served in a clay pot with a rich, aromatic tomato-based broth that’s tangy and spicy, striking the perfect balance of heat and sourness. Brimming with large, juicy prawns, squid, and other fresh seafood, soaking up all the robust flavors. Each spoonful delivers a satisfying burst of Thai herbs and spices, making this crowd-favorite a comforting and flavourful dish that leaves a lasting impression!

Thai Lime Steam Clams
RM 31

The Thai Lime Steam Clams dish offers a healthy and refreshing twist on a classic seafood dish. Fresh, tender clams are steamed to perfection and served in a vibrant, sour broth infused with the zesty flavours of lime, ginger, and fresh herbs. The light broth beautifully complements the clams' natural sweetness, while the lime and ginger add a tangy, aromatic kick. It’s a simple yet flavourful dish for those looking for a lighter, healthier option without compromising authentic Thai taste!

Coconut Otak-Otak With Seafood
RM 48

For something unique, try the Coconut Otak-otak—a creamy, fragrant twist on a Malaysian favourite. A fragrant and creamy rendition of the classic otak-otak, where the soft fish cake was steamed in coconut milk, adding a rich, aromatic flavor that elevated the traditional dish.

Seafood With Golden Egg Salad
RM 36

For something light and refreshing, the Seafood With Golden Egg Salad is a good choice. This flavourful sauce perfectly complements the fresh seafood medley, including squids and prawns paired with rich, golden egg yolks tossed in a tangy, flavourful dressing for a decadent salad experience. The balance of salty, sweet, and spicy flavors elevates the delicate freshness of the seafood, making it an exciting dish for adventurous diners seeking authentic Thai cuisine!

Thai Salted Egg Tiger Prawn
RM 45

Thai Handmade Prawn Cake
RM 39 for 6 pcs

We tried the Thai Butter Tiger Prawn and Thai Handmade Prawn Cake for a bit of variety. The vibrant Tiger Prawn dish was stir-fried with a generous amount of salted egg and curry leaves until golden perfection, giving it a luxurious texture and flavour. It was a perfect contrast to the lighter BBQ items.

Paku In Belacan
RM 22

My top pick for the vegetable dish has to be this exotic Paku In Belacan dish! Simply delicious, a must-try dish with crunchy fern shoots stir-fried in the aromatic belacan, delivering a burst of savoury flavours.

Red Ruby
RM 14

We indulged in the all-time favourite Red Ruby and Mango Sticky Rice to round out the meal with sweet endings. A classic Thai dessert, Red Ruby features ice flavoured with rose syrup, mango slices, coconut milk, and the little delightful 'Red Ruby' jewels!

Mango Sticky Rice
RM 18

Mango fans will delight in this Mango Sticky Rice dessert, which features Thai mangoes served with glutinous rice and coconut cream.

Spring Passion Lychee & Coconut Shake
RM 29.90 / RM 16

For drinks, we just had to try out their Four Season Special—Spring Passion Lychee. Served in a pincher, which is good for sharing with 2-3 pax, it was indeed a refreshing drink made from fresh passion fruit, lychee, mint, lime, and soda water. If you fancy some creamy, rich concoction, try the Coconut Shake!

Thai Coconut
RM 12.90

I'm a big fan of a healthier option, so I ordered the Thai Coconut for its naturally refreshing, sweet, and nutty taste!
