Fresh Ingredients For The Nasi Ulam

Talented Diana Chan was quick to prepare an all-time nutritious and healthy, easy to make 'Nasi Ulam' with the help of the refugee students at the cafe. She added that this Malay dish is a staple to many people in Malaysia, especially the Malays and Nyonya/Peranakan.

There's nothing not to like about it as it's utterly a healthy, tasty, aromatic and extremely appetising rice dish and tastes great together with a side dish of meat or fish. Made from assorted local herbs such as daun kunyit (turmeric leaves), serai (lemongrass), daun limau purut (kaffir lime leaves), daun kesum (polygonum/ Vietnamese mint), mint leaves and bunga kantan (torch ginger).

More About Eat X Dignity & Dignity For Children Foundation

Eat X Dignity is a cafe and creative space which gives back to the community it serves.  At Eat X Dignity, diners are served by youth who brew the coffee, man the till, and serve them delicious meals that are fresh, affordable and made from local produce.

Eat X Dignity is one of the three transformational enterprises at Dignity. What are transformational enterprises? They are social enterprises that real-life training platforms for youth to learn critical life skills, much-needed employability skills and developing character.

Opening a community cafe for youth and the wider public was an idea conceived over 10 years ago, by Co-founder Rev Elisha Satvinder. He dreamed of a space that would be bustling with activity and serve delicious and affordable food.

In mid-2015, with the support of partners Berjaya Corporation Berhad and the BIG Group, "Project B" was born. Berjaya provided the space rent-free and initial financial support, whilst BIG Group provided the start-up equipment and most of the furniture, as well as technical F&B and training expertise for the initial crew of students and staff.

In mid-2018, Project B was rebranded and launched as Eat X Dignity, one of the three transformational enterprises run by the Foundation, alongside Cut X Dignity and Sew X Dignity.

Eat X Dignity is a pork-free cafe, and ingredients sourced locally, with various herbs being grown in Dignity Kitchen Garden itself, just located next to the cafe.

The cafe runs various events like Father's Day and Mother's Day dinners, Christmas Meals, and so on. It collaborates with the Dignity social welfare team for community meal drives during Ramadan and Christmas seasons. Individuals donate a sum and Eat X Dignity cooks and deliver the food to needy families in Kuala Lumpur.

Eat X Dignity is open for both specials events on-site and catering orders for external functions with all profits go back to supporting the students in their care. So come by, grab a bite to eat, and be inspired!
