Frontera Sol Mexico ~ Capturing the Soul of Tex-Mex Cuisine @Jaya One Petaling Jaya

If food serves as a sneak peak of a country's culture and cuisine, then the Frontera Sol Mexico offers a tantalising insight into what a Latin American country has to offer. Located in Jaya One, a trendy lifestyle hub, this place is fast becoming the popular place to go for authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine while serving one of the fresh lime Margaritas in Malaysia.

Indoor Dining Area

Dim illuminations exude a sense of calm with dusky-coloured floor tiles and glossy wooden features set to welcome patrons. The soft dim lighting paints everything in a warm, orange glow, and I liked that they didn't overdo the décor with too many traditional antiques, instead opting for something more modern and minimal.

The Bar Lounge

Frontera Sol Mexico exudes a relaxed and welcoming ambience that has made it a popular dining and drinking destination for both city office workers and the residents of the Petaling Jaya. They offers a multifaceted concept, combining a gourmet all-day dining restaurant, together with a vibrant bar.

The Frontera Sol Mexico is surely one of a kind and will be a good place to chill out with a few friends to savour their range of margaritas, cocktails, Mexican beers and 100% Agave tequilas. Bottles of alcohol line a part of the wall while smooth wooden fittings along with warm lights illuminate the bar lounge.

Settle yourselves down amid the soothing ambiance with both air-conditioned indoor and al fresco dining ambience and get served with delectable delicacies comprising of Golden Chicken Tenders, Chili Con Queso, Crispy Taco Salad, Tex-Mex Burrito to Sizzling Fajita Platters, Chicken Ranch Sandwich and even a Homemade Mexican Flan!

Outdoor Al Fresco Seating

There is also a terrace outside for people who prefer to dine and drink al fresco -  Breezy and stylish with natural lighting by day, serving a wide range of Tex-Mex delights. This place offers a comfortable and contemporary dining space for you and your friends to dine in.

Frontera's Menu recommended for Sharing

Frontera's famous for interesting dishes and drinks such as Huevos Ranchero, Habanero Wings, Fish Tacos, Tex-Mex Burritos, Chilli Cheese Burger, Keylime Pie to The Don, Pina Colada and not forgetting their ultimate Horny Margaritas, as voted by TimeOutKL  as the Best in Kuala Lumpur.

Frontera Fiesta Platter ~ RM 39.95++

The Frontera Fiesta Platter is a wonderful mouth watering platter bite-sized treats for everyone. Good for sharing, its consists of Savoury Jalapeno Crab Cakes, Crispy Taquitos de Pollo, Stuffed Jalapenos and BBQ Buffalo Wings. A great appetiser which goes well with your Margaritas and Mexican beers too!

One for the Album with the Appetising Platter

As I have mention that the portion can be shared as a appetiser or alternatively, if one is hungry or perhaps greedy, it is ideal as a main course too. On the other hand, you can have the option of ordering the individual item from the menu if you like.

Jalapeno Crab Cakes

This ranked Top in my list of the platter spread. Being a pegedil or croquette lovers, it's love of first sight as I goes crazy with anything that is served as cutlet. Crab cakes are smooth and soft, bursting with crabby flavour upon each bite. Crunchy on outside and moist on the inside, fried to perfection and served with jalapeño remoulade. And for that, it’s get a thumbs up from me.

Taquitos de Pollo

Another winner for my taste buds. They are chicken wrapped in corn tortilla bites and fried to a golden delightful crisp on the outside. Addictive food, goes well with dipping sauce of  salsa verde and sour cream that comes with it. All I can say is that I really enjoy munching on the crispy yet succulent Mexican chicken rolls.

Stuffed Jalapenos

This particular bites didn't goes well with my taste buds, probably I never had a liking to sourish food. The crunchy hand breaded jalapenos stuffed with cheese, comes served with ranch dressing.

BBQ Buffalo Wings

These grilled chicken wings are served glazed with Frontera's signature BBQ sauce, together with ranch dressing. Well, all I can say is that I miss out on this dish and didn't get to try it. So I can't say much about this.

Sizzling Fajitas Con Pollo Asudo (Chicken) ~ RM 35.95++

Next up is the Fajitas Con Pollo Asudo. Served on a sizzling hot plate, this aromatic dish looks so good and smell good. The succulent and tender grilled breast chicken meat cooked together with red and green pepper, yellow onion and Jack Cheese makes oh-so-tasty especially eaten with the toasted flour tortillas as accompaniments. Plentiful portions, delicious and filling, wonderfully delicious rolls......

Interesting Creation: Guacamole Bacon Burger ~ RM 26.95++

Frontera's DIY burger with freshly made guacamole, beef bacon, melted Jack Cheese and roasted garlic aioli, tucked between a warm, sesame soft bun.

The Guacamole Bacon Burger is a delightful treat to beef lovers. A whooper pure beef patty comes with numerous ingredients (toppings) in this burger that is wider than the human jaw, everything blends together very well and taste fantastic. Come served with coleslaw and generous portion of paprika coated French fries.

Chunky & Thick Home made Beef Patty

Next, we are invited to sample some of Frontera's new offerings such as Tacone (Lamb & Fish), Beef Stuffed Jalapeno and lastly some Deep Fried Squid. These are just new items soon to be included in their menu and still under 'testing & tasting' stage.

Tacone ~ Fish
The Fish Tacos makes a good and tasty starter.  The fish is fresh and chunky coated with batter to be deep fried to perfection. Crispy and flavourful when eaten together with fried taco stuffed with shredded cabbage, Very appetising, the fish fillet and crunchy tacos with cabbage give up lovely flavours and contrasting texture with every bite.

Tacone ~ Lamb

Next comes the Tacone ~ Lamb which is a lovely tacos fixings rolled up in a tortilla cone. How clever! Minced lamb with other fillings, hand-wrapped in corn tortillas into a cone then flash fried till golden brown. Deliciously accompanied with a variety of garnishes/fillings such salsa, onions, guacamole and top up with melted cheese.

Frontera just got a new twist with these fun, customizable taco cones, playing around the idea of serving crunchy starter in a taco shell shaped like a cone. How interesting, the end product is akin to a hot, savoury 'ice-cream'...

Beef Stuffed Jalapenos
This is quite similar to their current appetizers' menu ~ Stuffed Jalapenos with Cheese. Fillings of minced beef is used instead of cheese, hand-breaded and deep fried to perfect crisp; served with home made Ranch dressing.

These beef stuffed jalapeno are better than the earlier ones. Loved the beefy goodness, definitely enjoyable for those who love a good robust flavour of the beefy goodness.

Deep Fried Squid

Well, as for the Deep Fried Squid; it didn't turn up as good as I expected. Although the serving is generous with big, thick and chunky rings of fresh chewy squid, but it's not up to the mark in term crispiness. Batter is probably too thick or wrong choice of coating used and still moist within, so the management got to re-tweak ... the recipe altogether again before introducing to the diners.

All Time Best Seller: Horny Margarita ~ RM 24.95++

Being a non-drinker during my food review sessions, I'm quite reluctant to order any alcoholic drinks and thought of just having some lemonade, ice lemon tea or even plain water will do just fine for me most of the time.

But I make an exception for this, upon watching the rest of the fellow bloggers merrily enjoying themselves with a  few sessions of margaritas throughout the tasting session. Ramesh, the restaurant manager recommend us to try out Frontera's most famous margaritas ~ the Horny Margarita, the restaurant's all-time best seller.

Sauza Hornitos Reposado

Horny Margarita takes on a smooth, mature character with pure 100% Agave flavour. I have my first Hornitos on the rocks on a classic 'salted rim' glass with a squeeze of lime. Initial taste gives a fruity agave sweetness with a touch of alcohol and it leaves a balanced warm, mellow finish.

I actually developed a liking towards this drink! Definitely a little on fruity side, I recommend this tequila 'hands-down' to people new to tequila just like me. If I'm coming back, I'm definitely going to order this for myself again the next time .....
