Hock Kee Kopitiam (福气安康) Arrives at Central i-City:
A Modern Taste of Olden Days
There is something deeply comforting about a traditional Nanyang-style cafe. Whether it’s the aroma of freshly brewed kopi or the sight of a perfectly golden egg tart, these flavors connect us to our heritage.
Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened Hock Kee Kopitiam (福气安康) at Central i-City, Shah Alam. Having opened its doors in early 2026, this Halal-certified gem is already becoming a popular destination for families looking for authentic Malaysian soul food in a beautiful, nostalgic setting.
The Vibe: Modern Nostalgia
Located at LG-12, Hock Kee Kopitiam perfectly captures the "Food of Olden Days." The ambiance strikes a lovely balance between traditional kopitiam charm and modern comfort. With clean lines, cozy seating, and a warm atmosphere, it’s an ideal spot to "Unwind and Be Happy" (as their name suggests!) after a day of shopping.
Our Nanyang Feast: What We Tasted
We dove straight into their extensive menu, which features everything from signature laksas to fusion chicken chops. Here’s a breakdown of our meal:
Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken
RM 16.90
You can’t visit a kopitiam without testing their Nasi Lemak. Hock Kee’s version comes with a generous, crispy piece of fried chicken. The rice is fragrant, and the sambal has that perfect balance of sweet and spicy that we Malaysians crave.
Steamed Chicken Laksa
RM 18.90
This was a standout for me. The broth was rich, creamy, and packed with aromatic spices. The addition of tender steamed chicken made it feel incredibly hearty and comforting.
Hock Kee Mee Rebus
RM 16.90
The gravy here is thick and savory, coating every strand of noodle perfectly. It’s a nostalgic dish done right—simple, flavorful, and satisfying.
Chicken in Salted Egg Yolk Rice
RM 16.90
For those who love a modern twist, this dish is a must-try. The salted egg yolk sauce was creamy and rich without being overwhelming, perfectly complementing the tender chicken pieces.
The Drinks: Kopi & Matcha
We washed everything down with their signature Iced Nanyang Kopi (RM 6.20)—thick, bold, and exactly how a traditional coffee should be. For a more modern palate, the Iced Matcha Latte (RM 13.90) was surprisingly refined and refreshing.
