LOTTERIA Opens First Malaysian Outlet
At The Curve Mall, Petaling Jaya
[PRESS RELEASE]
Lotteria, South Korea’s largest quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain, has officially opened its first outlet in Malaysia at The Curve Mall in Mutiara Damansara. The ribbon-cutting ceremony on 5 December was officiated alongside Serai Group co-founders Datuk Mohd Najib Abdul Hamid and Puan Rina Abdullah. It was graced by representatives of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Malaysia.
Their presence underscored the significance of this milestone partnership and the cultural ties celebrated by Lotteria’s arrival in Malaysia. This debut outlet marks the Korean fast-food giant’s official entry into the Malaysian market, achieved through a strategic collaboration between Korea’s Lotte GRS and Malaysia’s Serai Group. Under this partnership, the two companies have committed to rolling out 30 Lotteria outlets nationwide over the next five years, introducing Malaysian consumers to Lotteria’s unique brand of Korean-style fast food.
A Milestone Partnership Blending Global and Local Flavours
At the opening ceremony, both companies expressed enthusiasm for bringing Lotteria’s Korean flavours to Malaysian shores. “This is a chance to offer Malaysians a unique fast-food experience that combines global favourites with local flavours,” said Datuk Najib Hamid, Managing Director of Serai Group. The Serai Group, known for popular local F&B brands like Serai and Jibby & Co, sees Lotteria’s entry as “an opportunity to localise global favourites in a way that resonates with Malaysian tastes and values,” Datuk Najib added.
Lee Won Taek, Chief Executive Officer of Lotte GRS, echoed the commitment to adapting the brand for Malaysia’s market. He emphasized the company’s dedication to ensuring Lotteria’s successful localisation and long-term growth in Malaysia. In line with this goal, Lotteria’s menu in Malaysia is expected to undergo a thoughtful halal localisation to suit local palates. Serai Group’s established halal-certified central kitchen provides a strong foundation for the menu to reflect Malaysia’s diverse and inclusive food culture.

Initially founded in 1979, Lotteria has grown into one of Asia’s most recognizable fast-food chains, renowned for its unique take on Western-style comfort food infused with Korean flavours. With over 1,000 outlets in South Korea and hundreds more across Asia, the chain is famous for signature items like the Bulgogi Burger and Shrimp Burger that blend familiar fast-food staples with Korean twists.
The first Malaysian outlet will likewise offer Lotteria’s iconic menu, including Korean-style burgers, fried chicken, and more, while catering to local tastes. This blend of international appeal with local adaptation embodies the “mix of both” cultures and cuisines that the partnership aims to achieve.
Grand Launch Celebration – Family Fun Meets K-Culture
To celebrate the grand opening, Lotteria has planned a family-friendly launch event on 6 December 2025, inviting the public to join in the festivities at The Curve. The grand launch day will feature an array of activities that mix Korean pop culture with fun for all ages. Young visitors can enjoy face-painting activities and balloon giveaways, creating a carnival atmosphere for families.
Adding a vibrant Korean touch, an exceptional flash mob performance set to music by K-pop sensation TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) will take place, bringing the energy of Korean pop culture to the mall. Early customers will also receive exclusive Lotteria Malaysia merchandise giveaways as souvenirs of this inaugural event.
The inclusion of a K-pop dance flashmob alongside children’s activities reflects Lotteria’s effort to create a festive launch that’s both culturally rich and family-friendly. “We want to share a piece of Korean culture with our Malaysian community, while ensuring it’s a fun experience for everyone– kids, parents, and K-food fans alike,” a spokesperson from Lotteria Malaysia commented.
The involvement of the Korean Ambassador and local Malaysian royalty in the opening underscores the cultural exchange and friendship celebrated by this event. With Korean flavours, regional partnerships, and community-centric activities, Lotteria’s first foray in Malaysia exemplifies a harmonious blend of both cultures.
Lotteria’s first Malaysian outlet at The Curve is now open to customers, offering Malaysians a taste of Korea’s beloved fast-food cuisine right at home. Fans can look forward to savoring Lotteria’s famous menu items, from the iconic Shrimp Burger and sweet-savory Bulgogi Burger to crispy Korean fried chicken. As the brand embarks on its Malaysian journey, the successful opening at The Curve is set to be the first of many, heralding a new chapter in Malaysia’s quick-service dining scene.
