I recently had the opportunity to attend “Taste the Wonders of Australia”, an exclusive event held in Kuala Lumpur that brought together the very best of Australian produce — from dairy, meat, seafood, and horticulture to fine wines. It was a wonderful experience filled with flavours, learning, and meaningful conversations with key industry figures.

I was fortunate to attend the press conference, where senior executives from these peak bodies shared their insights on trade partnerships, market access, and the growing collaboration between Australia and Malaysia. The event also coincided with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations — a significant milestone celebrated with fine food and excellent wine.

A Feast of Flavours
For lunch, guests were treated to an impressive spread served through live cooking stations. Each dish was crafted using premium Australian ingredients, including beef, lamb, Tasmanian salmon, fresh vegetables, and fruits. After lunch, I attended one of the featured seminars — “Australia’s Seafood Industry: A Sustainable Future” presented by Chef Peter Rollison, Executive Chef at Flutes Restaurant, Bar in Singapore. Chef Rollison shared valuable insights into Australia’s sustainable seafood practices while demonstrating his culinary expertise in a live cooking session. Guests were treated to delectable samples of Australian Lobster and Tasmanian Salmon, both highlighting the freshness and superior taste of sustainably sourced Australian seafood.

Commitment to Collaboration
Throughout the event, one theme stood out — collaboration. Representatives from various Australian industries spoke passionately about working together to strengthen trade relationships and support Malaysia’s growing demand for high-quality, halal-certified, and sustainably produced food products.

Malaysia currently ranks as one of Australia’s key trading partners for agricultural exports, with bilateral trade valued at AUD 1.8 billion, underscoring the strong and growing connection between the two nations.
