RAMA V Re-Launch Party 2016 ~ Rejoices and Relaunches in Modern Meets Thai

I was very excited recently when invited to Rama V Pre-Launch Party - after their recent makeover showcasing a brand new modern contemporary decor. I was looking forward to dining at this amazingly beautiful and serene like ambience again since my last visit a year ago on 23 Sept 2015 for their MPH Masterclass Kitchen Series Thai Cookbook launch. Nice Ambience & Elegant Decor

Rama V opened two decades ago, as the first Thai fine dining restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. After 22 years since its inception, Rama V had made way for a makeover in March 2016 and upon re-opening its doors in May, Rama V showcased a fresh new look coupled with a newly revamped identity.

The makeover was coined from the idea of ‘Modern Meets Thai’, where the tradition of Thai meets the elegance of modern world. The refurbishment still retains everything Rama V embodies —timeless, customisable with innovative fine Thai cuisine — while delivering it in a more vibrant and modern atmosphere.

Rama V celebrated its rebirth last Thursday, 24 November 2016 with a lavish event attended by approximately 250 guests despite the pouring rain earlier in the evening. Aside from VIPs, media, friends and families; local celebrities and names were also seen in the event such as Datuk Chef Wan, Razif Hashim, Wong Chui Ling, Dennis Lau, Dato Kee Hua Chee and Selina Yeop Jr. Aside from that, the event was also graced by the presence of Miss Patcha Wutipan, the Minister Commercial (Counsellor) from the Office of Commercial Affairs, Royal Thai Embassy as well as our guests from Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor & Federal Territory (SCAS&FT).

The joyous occasion kicked off at 7:30pm where canapes were served, drinks were poured and guests started to warm themselves up by taking pictures from the photo booth.

Andre Shum, the Brand CEO of Rhombus Holdings Sdn Bhd gave a welcome address where he mentioned that “As Thailand had recently celebrated its festival of lights called the Loy Krathong - it is the perfect time for us to rejoice Rama V’s relaunch where we could release lighted krathongs into the pond while making well wishes. We thank everyone who has stood by us, supporting us through our journey and we hope to serve you for another 22 more years if not more. After 22 years, we've decided that it was time for a refurbishment to keep up with the current trends while still preserving the authenticity of the Thai cuisine that we are known for.”

He also added that “The refurbishment still encompasses everything Rama V embodies —timeless, customisable with innovative fine Thai cuisine — while delivering it in a more vibrant and modern atmosphere. With the makeover, Rama V is now like a fanciful glass pavilion that can host up to 300 persons, where it will be the pick for your next special events – be it intimate dinners, cocktail parties, weddings or corporate events."

The main highlight of the night was Rama V’s chefs parading out with krathongs in their hands, sparkled the krathongs before inviting the co-founders of Rhombus Holdings Sdn Bhd and guests to join in the spectacular occasion of lighting and floating the krathongs to launch the event.

The night continued on where the guests were entertained by Thai cultural dance performance, the martial arts of Muay Thai and live jazz music.

Of course, Rama V’s relaunch would not be complete without the F&B features. Food stalls with live cooking were prepared where guests freely explored and tasted the splendid array of gastronomical Thai food ranging from salads to curries, grilled meats, stir-fried items and soups. The focus for food then and today remains the same: to serve our guests through enjoyable culinary journeys with authentic and contemporary Thai dishes.

All in all, the relaunch event further proved that the new Rama V is a venue that is more than Thai fine dining, as it is the restaurant that will always leave our guests with fond memories…
