ONLY U RESTAURANT
GLENMARIE SHAH ALAM
PROBABLY THE BEST OF SIAM MEE LAKSA IN TOWN
Taking a break from all the endless Yee Sang Chinese New Year Menu tasting and Lou Sang's dinners for this month, Auntie Lilly is excited to share a hidden gem, my latest discovery on my gastronomic journey looking for some of the unique and special cuisines worth sharing with my foodies' followers on my blog here!
Siam Mee Laksa
RM 6.50 (S)
RM 7 (B)
Here's the big bowl of SIAM MEE LAKSA - For me, this probably the BEST ever SIAM MEE LAKSA I had tasted so far. I was introduced to Only U Restaurant located at Glenmarie in Shah Alam by my foodie's daughter, Carmen who's also a great fan of this noodles dish. She makes it a point to drive up here all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Shah Alam to get her carvings satisfied with this lovely noodles dish.

In fact, she has been raving about this hidden gem to me many times over but I was just too busy to check out this place until recently with her. It was indeed a happy and emotional surprise for me too, as I wasn't expecting to see her in the shop as I came with my hubby and son to eat here.
She's based in Singapore and came home just to celebrate my 55th birthday with me. It was indeed a nice surprise to see her 'popping out' from the shop, shouting "Mommy! Mommy! I'm back to celebrate your birthday with you tomorrow".
For only RM 6.50, this delicious Siam Mee Laksa is definitely worth going back for more. The broth has a strong fresh herb flavour as a result of hours of preparation and what gives it an extra kick, is the small plate of 'Har Ko' or shrimp paste sauce served alongside the bowl. What I like most is the thick and spicy broth, like an explosion of flavours with every sip offering strong fragrant flavours.
The Siam Mee Laksa comes with generous servings of 'lai fun', the thick and slippery rice noodles, pork slices, 'not-so-big' shrimps and shredded cucumbers for the added crunch. But the intense and flavourful broth makes up for the little shrimps, truly a good bowl of Siam Mee Laksa that hits the right notes.
Mee Yoke
RM 6.50 (S)
RM 7 (B)
Next, another noodles dish worthy of mention has to be the 'Mee Yoke'. The name 'Mee Yoke' may be an unfamiliar name for many, but this is the old version - a name we used to call the 'Prawn Mee or Har Mee'. Only U Restaurant also serves up an excellent Prawn Mee or Mee Yoke that's certainly a must-try.
The Mee Yoke came out just fine with a strong prawn flavour and had a good balance of spiciness, sweetness and saltiness. The kangkung and the mee hoon soaked up the prawn broth well, so everything mixed well together. It comes with shrimps, hard boiled egg, pork slices and lots of bean sprouts.
Kampar Noodles
RM 6.50 (S)
RM 7 (B)
For a less spicy option, try the Kampar Noodles, that's served with generous servings of fish cakes slices, bouncy fish balls, fish paste wanton (Yee Pei Wan Ton). The clear ikan bilis broth is light and flavourful, this noodle is best eaten with a choice of kuey teow or mee hoon.
I like my noodles with a lot of bean sprouts (Taugeh) and the stall owner was nice enough to add extra taugeh without any extra charges.

This place is definitely worth a drive from KL or PJ, if you're looking for something different from the norm. I believe this Siam Mee Laksa is not available elsewhere as far as I know in Klang Valley. So this is a special and unique dish you must try - giving you more reasons to come up to Shah Alam for foodies hunting expedition.
