MUI KEE COOK FOOD STALL
TSIM SHA TSUI
First time eating at Hong Kong 'Dai Pai Dong' at Mui Kee Cook Food Stall in Tsim Sha Tsui experiencing the essence of a true 'Dai Pai Dong' savouring the delicious Cantonese style dishes laden with Wok Hei! This was my first-night dining in Hong Kong and was curious to check out their famous roadside stalls called the ''Dai Pai Dong' that serves up a wide range of delicious 'Tai-Chow' style Chinese dishes.
I was told that most of the ' 'Dai Pai Dong', open-air food stall by the roadside have been relocated to shops and reinvented themselves as air-conditioned restaurants like Mui Kee Cook Food Stall in Carnarvon Plaza in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The atmosphere in a chaotic environment filled with sounds of laughter, conversation and cooking - similar to our Msian-style 'Tai Chow' here. The menu is vast and prices are affordable starting from HKD 68 onwards.
Deep Fried Salt & Pepper With Squid
We had the addictive Deep Fried Salt & Pepper With Squid, Spare Ribs In Plum Sauce, Beef Stir Fry With Broccoli & Steamed Minced Pork With Salted Fish, eaten with a big bowl of warm white rice.

The menu is extensive for a 'Dai Pai Dong' and we even had an English menu to order from catering to tourists eager for a taste of HK true blue culture. The place is cramped with the arrangement of round tables and plastic stools with the iconic red tungsten lamps hanging from the ceiling.
One point to note though; make sure you are thorough or specific when making your orders as the waitress tends to take 'a wrong order' and serves you a 'premium pork dish' HKD 198 instead of the 'regular pork dish' HKD 98.
This happens to us when we were dining that night, but I was quick to reject and returned the 'unwanted' dish to her citing that she made a mistake. This could be the fact that we look like tourists and she's all out to cut our throat!
Mind you...HKD 198 is a big price to pay for pork knuckle in Malaysian Ringgit = RM100, so you have to be careful when dining here!
