CHINESE NEW YEAR MENU 2018 AT FOUR POINTS BY SHERATON PUCHONG

CHINESE NEW YEAR MENU 2018
FOUR POINTS BY SHERATON PUCHONG
CELEBRATE CHINESE NEW YEAR WITH SIX-TREASURE TRADITIONS AT THE EATERY

Recently, I was delighted to be invited to Four Points By Sheraton Puchong for their Chinese New Year dishes sampling session. Making a toast welcoming the Year of the Dog for a prosperous year ahead at The Eatery, their all-day-dining restaurant, the chefs have prepared a myriad of mouth-watering dishes including the bountiful Six-Treasure Yee Sang that claims the throne as the star of the spread as it is filled with marinated soy clams, a combination of fresh sashimi chunks and grated greens.

Inviting guests to indulge in a memorable Chinese New Year feast, the hotel's Executive Chef Yap Kim Hon have prepared a 9-Course CNY Chinese Set Dinner for us during the tasting session. We started dinner off with the Six-Treasure Yee Sang.

Symbolising good luck, prosperity, health and all things auspicious, the Yee Sang is a unique and healthy treat that comes with Sashimi grade salmon, tuna and white tuna, jellyfish, marinated soy clam and smoked salmon, grated vegetable, pickles leek and preserved papaya, crispy treasure with blackcurrant plum dressing.

Its colourful presentation is indeed a treat for the palate as it is for the eye. This is truly a luxurious Yee Sang with six kinds of 'treasures' that are bound to delight your senses.

Double Boiled Duck Broth With Tangerine Peel, Cordyceps & Sun-Dried Scallop

Next, on the list, we were presented with the 'Double boiled duck broth with tangerine peel, cordyceps and sun-dried scallop'. Indeed a flavoursome and nutritious broth with the gamey smell of the duck toned down with the clever use of the tangerine peel giving some tangy flavour to the delicious broth.

Cherry Wood Smoked Duck Breast With Black Truffle Essence

Moving on, our love affair with the duck has just begun. Duck lovers are in for a treat with 'Cherrywood smoked duck breast with black truffle essence'.

The meat was moist and tender, not too salty and good enough to eat on it own without the need of any rice. The presence of the black truffle essence did intensify the dish but not too overpowering.

Tiger Prawn In Sun Dried Persimmon Butter Cream

The seafood dish of 'Tiger Prawn in sundried persimmon buttercream' was a personal favourite of the night. Looking unassuming as it was laid on the table, everyone was thinking this is just another 'Butter Prawn' dish. Little did we know that Chef Yap has improvised the dish by adding a special ingredient of chopped sun-dried persimmon thus making it such a delight to eat.

You'll enjoy the rich and creamy butter gravy coating the deep-fried juicy prawns... once in awhile, you might bite into the sweet, citrus flavour of the dried persimmon that gives it an added level of flavour.

Dragon Tiger Grouper or known as  Loong Fu Pan (龙虎班)

Another must-have for Chinese New Year festivities dishes is the fish. The Dragon Tiger Grouper or known as  Loong Fu Pan (龙虎班) was served steamed with fresh beancurd stick and wolfberries in premium light soy sauce. The smooth fresh beancurd stick complemented the firmly-textured fish that is known for its rich high oil and moisture content.

Well, my fish-loving hubby, Uncle Hong wasted no time in eating the fish down to the bones that night while I enjoyed the flavourful beancurd stick that soaks up much of the flavour from the tasty fish.

Sun Dried Oyster Dumplings, Pacific Clams & Shiitake Mushroom with Seasonal Vegetable

The final two main courses were the 'Sun dried oyster, Pacific clams and Shiitake mushroom with seasonal vegetable and Wok-Fried rice with preserved olives, shrimps and crispy sun-dried scallops.

Batter-Fried 'Nian Gao' With Sliced Yam & Sweet Potato Paired With Lotus Puffs

This was followed by the traditional dessert of Batter-fried 'Nian Gao' with sliced yam and sweet potato paired with lotus puffs made for a light and tasty ending to our sumptuous feast that night.
