The Honest Verdict:
Is Oh Yeah Kopitiam’s RM 18 Sang Har Mee Worth the Hype?
OH YEAH KOPITIAM RM18 Sang Har Mee ~ Is it really worth the buzz?
Oh Yeah Kopitiam is a name that buzzes across the Klang Valley. This non-halal coffee shop chain, with bustling outlets in SS2, Bandar Puchong Jaya, and the Taman Connaught spot in Cheras, has earned its fame for one simple, unbeatable reason: they sell what is possibly the cheapest Signature Freshwater Prawn Noodles, or Sang Har Mee, in town.
OH YEAH KOPITIAM In Taman Connaught, Cheras
My husband, Uncle Hong, has tried the RM 18 dish before and rated it as 'decent.' But for me, this recent visit to the Taman Connaught outlet was my first encounter with the legendary noodles. When you look around, you know this is the dish to order—it’s literally on every single table. At just RM 18 for a plate, it promises instant value, and I had to find out what all the fuss was about.

Value vs. Flavour: My Personal Take
After eagerly diving in, here is my completely honest verdict on Oh Yeah Kopitiam’s famous Sang Har Mee.
The Good: Purely on a value basis, it’s hard to beat. You get two fresh freshwater prawns for less than RM 20. That’s incredible bang for your buck, and for many, that alone justifies the price.
The Reality Check: While the value is there, the dish itself, unfortunately, fell flat for me. In my opinion, the flavour was severely lacking. It was actually quite bland and tasteless. The thick, rich gravy that you typically expect from a Sang Har Mee was present in volume, but the flavour profile was surprisingly absent. Furthermore, I found the gravy to be too thick in consistency. To make it palatable, I had to generously mix in some Sambal Belacan to introduce the necessary spice and complexity.

The Prawn Size Shrunk From The Last Time Hubby Dined Here
The Prawn Predicament
Another point of disappointment came from Uncle Hong. He noted that the size of the signature freshwater prawns was inconsistent. On his last visit, the prawns were noticeably larger, whereas this time, they had visibly shrunk. While I can appreciate that fresh prawn prices fluctuate, this inconsistency in the star ingredient is a letdown for repeat customers.

Final Thoughts
This review is solely based on my personal experience with the Signature Freshwater Prawn Noodles. While I commend Oh Yeah Kopitiam for bringing this dish down to an accessible price point, I personally wouldn't come back just to eat this particular dish again due to the lack of flavour.

Have you tried the Sang Har Mee here? If you haven't, I still encourage you to go give it a shot, especially if you prioritize value. But I’d love to know: do you agree with my take on the flavour, or did I just get an off-day batch? Drop your verdict in the comments below!
