Located in the bustling Chinatown Complex Market and Food Centre in Singapore, Zhong Guo La Mian Xiao Long Bao 中国拉面小笼包 is a hawker stall that offers affordable handmade xiao long bao, as well as a variety of other delicious dishes.

As soon as we arrived, we could see the expertly crafted xiao long bao being made by hand in the stall. We decided to start with the star of the show and ordered a plate of the handmade Xiao Long Bao (S$ 7 for 10 pieces).

Xiao Long Bao
S$ 7 For 10 Pcs

The xiao long bao had a paper-thin, translucent skin that was expertly pleated and held a pool of hot soup stock in each dumpling. The filling was a mixture of savoury pork and a little bit of soup, which was juicy and flavourful. A sprinkle of vinegar and a dollop of chilli sauce took the dish to another level.

Szechuan Spicy Wanton
S$ 6 For 10 Pcs

Next up, we decided to try the Szechuan Spicy Wanton (S$ 6 For 10 Pieces). The wantons were served in a pool of rich red vinegary chilli oil that was almost slurp-worthy. The sauce had a great balance of acidity, spiciness and savouriness, which made the dish incredibly moreish. The wantons themselves were filled with a pork and prawn mixture that was bursting with flavour.

Overall, our experience at Zhong Guo La Mian Xiao Long Bao was fantastic. The handmade xiao long bao and Szechuan Spicy Wanton were all made with care and attention to detail, and the prices were extremely reasonable, making this a great affordable Chinese cuisine at budget prices that is worth visiting for its handmade food in Chinatown.  If you're in the area, we highly recommend a visit to this Michelin-recommended hawker stall.
