This year, Shanghai Restaurant celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with nine mooncake flavours for a dose of indulgence. From the traditionally baked moon cake filled with lotus or red bean paste, with one or two yolks, these delicacies have evolved with the times.

Over the years, mooncakes have evolved in terms of flavours and tastes where the various flavours of mooncake and shapes have become more prominent, with exciting flavours such as green tea and durian both proving to be a popular choice.

We were treated to a mixture of five types of mooncakes featuring both traditional and new flavours, including
  • Shanghainese Mooncake of Crispy White Lotus Paste With Salted Egg Yolk
  • Baked White Lotus Paste With Salted Egg Yolk
  • Baked Bamboo Charcoal Paste With Salted Egg Yolk
followed by Snow series of
  • Snow Skin Shiro Umeboshi With Green Tea Paste
  • Snow Skin Durian Paste with Truffle
Shanghai Restaurant stays true to tradition with its classic mooncake flavours but also gets creative when it comes to new recipes. Healthier mooncake selections include Snow Skin Shiro Umeboshi With Green Tea Paste and Baked Bamboo Charcoal Paste With Salted Egg Yolk would go well with the health-conscious customers.

Shanghainese Mooncake of Crispy White Lotus Paste With Salted Egg Yolk

For the classic and traditional mooncake, try the Shanghainese Mooncake of Crispy White Lotus Paste With Salted Egg Yolk. It is made with high-quality lotus seed. The salted aromatic egg yolk fused splendidly with a classic sweet pure lotus seed paste makes this smooth and soft mooncake taste even superior.

Shanghai Mooncakes are special as such for their buttery and crisp pastry with sweet lotus filling. I love Shanghai mooncake especially for its crumbly melt-the-mouth texture pastry skin, with the soft and sweet lotus paste filling and enhance the savoury taste from the salted egg yolk.

Snow Skin Shiro Umeboshi With Green Tea Paste

The chefs' creative fusion of the Baked Bamboo Charcoal Paste With Salted Egg Yolk and Snow series of Snow Skin Shiro Umeboshi With Green Tea Paste will definitely titillate your palate.

The Baked Bamboo Charcoal Paste paired up wonderfully together with the salted egg yolk, giving you a joint of different flavours in one bite. The pastry skin is not too thick and tasted just perfect when you sink your teeth into it. Thumbs up to that!

Snow Skin Durian Paste with Truffle

Back by popular demand is the much sought after Shanghai's Signature, Snow Skin Durian Paste with Truffle. This limited-time flavour is made with fresh Musang King durian pulp that will bring out the intense flavour of the fruit.

Perfect for all durian lovers that will find it irresistible and a must grab as stocks are limited in numbers.

Apart from the mooncakes tasting, we were treated to Shanghai's dim sum and tea in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival and Shanghai's 20th Anniversary celebration.

Shanghai's Hot & Cold Combination ~ Traditional Zheng Jiang Ham & Baked Royal Bridge Biscuit

First to arrive on the table was Shanghai's Hot & Cold Combination ~ Traditional Zheng Jiang Ham & Baked Royal Bridge Biscuit.

 Steamed Shanghainese Meat Dumplings

One of the most sought-after Shanghai delicacies has to be the Steamed Shanghainese Meat Dumplings or more commonly known as 'Xiao Long Bao'. Eat them quick once it serves to enjoy these broth-filled Shanghainese delights!

Braised Spanish Dong Po Pork With Chinese Rice Wine

Braised Spanish Dong Po Pork With Chinese Rice Wine is one of the dishes I can never get enough of when dining at Shanghai Restaurant.

This famous Hangzhou pork belly dish was believed to be created by Su Dong Po, a famous poet, writer, calligrapher and statesman of the Song dynasty in China. Shanghai serves one of the best and once you taste it, you'll know why!
