Korean Wang BBQ Center @SS2 Petaling Jaya - Fresh & Tasty Authentic Korean Food in Town

Affordable Korean Barbecue
Korean Wang BBQ Center

Annyeong-haseyo, everyone! Auntie Lilly ~ FollowMeToEatLa was very excited to review this hidden gem - a Newbie Korean Barbecue restaurant run by a Korean Chef called Sung. A man truly passionate of his roots, he turns his cooking interest into food business and now dedicates his time and effort solely into churning out a menu of authentic Korean culinary ranging selection of dishes to please all tastes.

While most Korean restaurants in the Klang Valley are found around the Korean Ampang Village, it is refreshing and a pleasant surprise to find one in Petaling Jaya, run by a Korean Chef - Mr. Sung. Located at No.42, Jalan SS2/66, Petaling Jaya, Korean Wang BBQ Center is a smoke-free restaurant where customers can enjoy fresh meats right off the grill.

The plus point with smaller set-ups, such as Korean Wang BBQ Center in SS2, is that they make their offerings more affordable in order to reach out to more customers. Opened early this year, Korean Wang BBQ Center focuses on Korean barbecue that appeals to the young crowds and families. It creates an opportunity for diners to spend quality times together while waiting for their food to be grilled.

Spacious and Simple Decor

With its simple and cheery interior, no-frills Korean Wang BBQ Center focuses purely on serving all day dining delicious meals to its diners.

Smokeless dining experience with special smoke vacuum funnel with an extendable exhaust to suck up the smoke from the grills.

Charcoal briquettes is sensibly used for the barbecue, therefore the meats are infused with a delightfully smoky flavour.

Our 'Banchan' as its called in Korean ~ Complete with a wide variety of side dishes such as kimchi, fresh green chillies, potatoes, shredded onions in sauce, garlic, sesame with salt dipping sauce, in house made special sauce and together  with fresh lettuce for the wraps.

Fresh green - Lettuce for the wraps with BBQ meat

A must have for any type of BBQ meal. Fresh greens: Crunchy lettuce is my favourite vegetable to eat with BBQ meat. Refreshing healthy and calories free giving a good balance of protein and vegetables.

Freshest Meat For The Barbecue

Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly), Moksal (Pork Shoulder), DwaeJi Galbi ( Marinated Pork ), BBQ Chicken (Marinated Chicken)
(From top left clockwise)

Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly)
RM 19

Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly) are served in thick slice cut and need not be marinated. These three layered pork belly is a sinful indulgence as the succulent and tender pork belly contained a good balance of fat and lean meatActually I'm not a fan of pork belly for its fat layer, but for this case I gave it a miss. The freshly grilled pork belly was tasty and juicy, went so well with the lettuce wraps and the side dishes.

Moksal (Pork Chop)
RM 19

Moksal or Pork neck meat ~ Served beautifully marbled, has a deep flavour but lower in fat and tastes great when grilled. This neck meat comes in thick normal pork chop size and is then cut into bite size pieces with a scissor as it is grilled. The restaurant worker does an excellent job with his expert hand grilling the meat for us that day. It was done effortlessly with perfect timing and perfection and we were served with palate of juicy, smoky and succulent barbecue meat in a jiffy. Well-executed, thumbs up for that!

DwaeJi Galbi ( Marinated Pork)
RM 22

Loving the DwaeJi Galbi ( Marinated Pork) as it was bursting with flavours and tender texture. Tasted like the 'Char Siu', well-marinated with the special Korean soya sauce which penetrated fully into the meat. Good on its own wrapped with the crunchy lettuce without any dipping sauce. Heavenly delicious!

BBQ Chicken (Marinated Chicken)
RM 19

Last but not least, the last grilled items was Marinated Chicken. Non-pork lovers will enjoy this flavoursome marinated juicy chicken thigh. It was good enough to be enjoyed on its own with its true flavour.

Complete with a wide variety of rice, noodles, soups and side dishes, Korean Wang BBQ Center also offers a Korean dining experience that is different from the rest. Apart from barbecue, diners can choose to have other delights such as Tteokbokki (Korean rice cake), Kimchi Jigye (Kimchi Stew), Cheesy Pork Rib, Cheesy Chicken, Gyeranjjim (steamed eggs), Bulgogi Dupbap (Beef rice), Haemul Pa Jeon (seafood pancake) and many more.

Tteokbokki (Stir-Fried Korean Rice Cake)
RM 10

Tteokbokki is a popular Korean snack food made from frying rice cake with sweet red chilli sauce. During my food tasting sessions, I have tasted many various versions of Tteokbokki. Well, I have to say that this is one of the best I ever had - not too chewy or too soft to bite and I loved the sauce. It's sweet spicy and rich in flavour unlike some I tasted which was too bland or mild in taste.

Even though you are not fan of Tteokbokki, you ought to give this dish a try. Check it out, be adventurous and you might just fall in love with it ... just like me!

Kimchi Jigye (Kimchi Stew)
RM 15

Cheesy Pork Ribs (600 gm)
RM 40

Cheesy Pork Ribs ~ An outstanding mouth-watering pork dish of the day. This beautiful dish was a little out of the ordinary with pork ribs cooked with Korean spicy sauce with the final act of topping it generously with rich cheese. Wonderfully impressive and picture pretty too, the pork ribs were fork-tender with the sweet and sour sauce waking up our taste buds. For me, the meaty pork ribs were tastier when eaten with hand and finger licking good.

Palate-Melting Creation: Chef Sung's Cheesy Pork Ribs

Cheesy Chicken
RM 25

A similar version of the previous cheesy pork ribs but replaced with chicken meat instead. Chicken lovers can opt for this version if you are not a great fan of pork ribs. Chicken thigh cooked in Korean spicy sauce and topped with cheese before serving.

Chef Sung also prides himself on serving us some of his family home-style light bites dishes such as the fluffy and light Cheese Omelette and the appetising Potato Pancake which are great choices. These dishes are not feature in his menu but are specially prepared for us on the food tasting session to sample. How thoughtful of him!

    1. Do check out this restaurant out in SS2. Not much publicity unlike the big players - Palsaik or Daorae. Remember to try out the family set too!
