Life Cafe Tea House @Taman Segar Cheras ~ Hearty Herbal Soups & Noodles Fare

The history of Life Cafe began with the opening of it's business operation way back in 1995 in Kuching. Since then, Life Cafe had expanded and gain much popularity for its unique variety of appetising Chinese and local cuisines. With 3 outlets in Kuching, Sarawak, one in Skudai, Johor and with the fifth in Taman Segar Cheras Kuala Lumpur.

Life Cafe @Taman Segar Cheras

Strategically located within the bustling suburb of Cheras in Taman Segar, and fast becoming a popular dining spots around the neighbourhood in this part of KL. This restaurant stands out with its rustic, wooden structure and a traditional Chinese-style rooftop. Life Cafe occupies two floors of a shop lot with spacious seating but parking can be terrible even on weekdays. I was told that many double parked and some just parked their cars at the nearby Leisure Mall to take a short stroll to this place.

We start off our dinner with a round orders of the various ice green teas, ice black tea, juices and 'white cloud' beverages. One can be spoilt for choices when it comes to drinks or beverages at Life Cafe. They offers more than 50 choices for its patrons to choose from.

It actually take us a while to decide upon which drinks to choose and are quite lost looking at the extensive drinks menu.

Everyone knows that a warm and tasty soup will definitely put hearts at ease. Life Cafe provides a wide range of delicious, healthy and nourishing choices of eight different types of soups, including Ginseng Chicken Soup, Ten Treasure Chicken Herbal Soup, Chicken Soup with Lotus Roots, Stew Mutton with Yand & Medlar Herbs and Eight Treasure Home made Chicken Soup to name a few.

Ginseng Chicken Soup ~ RM 9.50
Ten Treasure Chicken Herbal Soup ~ RM 12.50

A must-have are the 2 popular Chinese Herbal Soups consisting Ginseng Chicken Soup & Ten Treasure Chicken Herbal Soup. Served in a mini claypot, the soups are lusciously delicious and superbly rich in chicken flavours. Slow-simmered with combination of chinese herbs and spices, these soups does wonders to clear your stress and freshens up the mind with a dose of ginseng!

Stew Mutton with Yand & Medlar Herbs ~ RM 9.90
Eight Treasure Home Made Chicken Soup ~ RM 9.90

Traditional Chicken Soup with Lotus Roots ~ RM 9.50

Choices are plenty with a total of 8 choices ranging from various soups. Start your meal with a hearty soup and delight your palate on some delicious and tummy warming soup that's perfect for any time of the day.

Selections of Noodles, Vermicelli & Rice

At Life Cafe, diners can take their pick from the available dishes ranging from stew beef, curry chicken, chicken chop, pineapple chicken, fish fillet, lamb special spicy, curry lamb special among others to go with their speciality Life's Spicy Noodles, Dry Noodles, Shanghai Noodles, Ginger Noodles and even Xi-Chuan Noodles too.

If noodles is not your call, you can opt to have the Vermicelli instead with the same selections of spicy. dry, shanghai, ginger and Xi-Chuan flavours. Nevertheless, if you are a die-hard fan of rice (rice bucket fella) fret not, you can pick to have rice too with the dishes instead of the noodles or vermicelli.

My personal favourite for the night is the Classic Spicy Vermicelli (RM 7.90). The simple yet tasty vermicelli has a fragrant aroma of the fried shallots and scallion. It tastes so smooth and slurp-satisfying too. Another comfort food in my list!

Lamb Special, Pineapple Chicken & Curry Chicken

Home made Meat Rolls ~ RM7.50

My favourite snack is the traditional Home made Meat Rolls. They are flavoured minced chicken meat wrapped with bean curd and deep fried till perfection. Golden delightful crisp on the outside and meaty on the inside, these small bites are good for sharing. Tasted similar to Penang Lor Bak except it's made with chicken and not pork.

Life's Spicy Wonton ~ RM 8.90

Life's Steam Chicken Dumplings ~ RM 7.50
Life's Fried Chicken Dumplings ~ RM 7.50

Appetizers like fried or steam dumplings, spring onions egg pancake, traditional tea egg, crispy fried wontons are also available from their menu. These small bites are all good for sharing and goes well for someone wanting a light meal instead.
Butter Toast ~ RM 3

In addition, the Butter Toast is a crowd-pleaser. Everyone just simply love it. A strong buttery of sweet and savoury, the special thick toast really taste good on first bite. Even better if having this to go with black coffee.

Black Sesame Toast ~ RM 3.90

Simply a Must-Order at Life Cafe, this toast comes served with thick savoury black sesame paste spread on the inch thick crispy toasted bread. Not too sweet with smoky flavour of the healthy roasted black sesame.

Peanut Cookies ~ RM 3.90

Lastly out of curiosity sake, we order some peanut cookies from the 'home made dessert' section of the menu. It's not bad but nothing to shout about too. I have eaten better ones than these during the Chinese New Year festive celebration. Well, you can try if you like but if your bench mark it against the soft with melt-in-the-mouth type then you will be deeply disappointed.

My foodie friends and I (on the left) always ready with a smile for the camera while waiting for our food and drinks to arrive.

Life Cafe will be unforgettable if you pick the right dishes on the menu (preferably the soups and noodles) to suit your palate. Price pretty decent, won't burn a hole in your pocket. As for me, I would probably come back for the Herbal Soups as they are real value for money and the Classic Spicy Vermicelli ... my new comfort food!
