Colourful Dim Sum
Dim sum refers to a style of Cantonese food prepared as small bite-sized or individual portions of food traditionally served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. Dim sum is also well known for the unique way it is served in some restaurants, wherein fully cooked and ready-to-serve dim sum dishes are carted around the restaurant for customers to choose their orders while seated at their tables.

Eating dim sum at a restaurant is usually known in Cantonese as going to "drink tea" (yum cha), as tea is typically served with dim sum. While dim sum (literally meaning: touch the heart) was originally not a main meal, only a snack, and therefore only meant to touch the heart, it is now a staple of Cantonese dining culture.
Many restaurants start serving dim sum as early as five in the morning. It is a tradition for the elderly to gather to eat dim sum after morning exercises. For many, yum cha is treated as a weekend family day. More traditional dim sum restaurants typically serve dim sum until mid-afternoon. But in Malaysia, we often sleep until nine or ten in the morning on Sundays and look for a nice breakfast around the town.
My family and I used to frequent a lot of restaurants in & around OUG, Seri Petaling & Old Klang Road for a weekend outing. This particular dim sum shop called Restaurant Tin Sum serves an array of the mouthwatering authentic dim sum from 7am to 3pm every day. Located as it's just right next to the Public Bank & in the heart of the OUG morning market. It's usually rather crowded on weekend mornings. Appetising Creations of Dim Sum
A traditional dim sum includes various types of steamed buns such as cha siu pau, dumplings and rice noodle rolls (cheong fun), which contain a range of ingredients, including beef, chicken, pork, prawns and vegetarian options. There are more than 30 items to choose from the menu which includes dim sum either steamed or fried, noodles, porridge and dessert. |
If you around the vicinity of Old Klang Road, do come over to Restoran Tin Sum to find out why you should try this dim sum restaurant that's a popular dim sum haunt for the locals here!
