MOMOCHAN 2019 CHRISTMAS MENU

It was my first time at MOMOCHAN and I'm delighted to share some of my 'Happy Eats' dining experience of their latest festive offerings in conjunction with the Yuletide season.

Shiitake Nanban
RM 12.90

We started with the Shiitake Nanban. This was a great start to get our appetite to work up with some deliciously fried Shitake Mushrooms stuffed with chicken breast meat. The meat was firm while the Shitake mushrooms maintain a chicken-like texture, soft and spongy quality, both tasted good with the Nanban sauce.

Best eaten when it's still hot, fragrant and crispy upon the first bite. Oh yes, do remember to dip it into the sweet and sour Nanban sauce. Totally addictive and this is that kind of sinful but delicious dish you can't stop munching away.

 Japanese Karaage Winglets
RM 12.90

If you love some juicy deep-fried chicken wings, order the Japanese Karaage Winglets - featuring a pair of chicken winglets, well-marinated with soy sauce, sake and ginger together and fried to perfection with a crisp texture on the outside and super juicy and tender on the inside.

Flavourful, meaty and well-trimmed, MOMOCHAN's Japanese Karaage Winglets get the double thumbs up from everyone at the table that night. A great hand-held crowd favourite for starters and also finger-licking good too!

Plain Chawanmushi with Yuzu Chili
RM 5.90

Well, deep-fried food aside, if you're looking for a lighter and healthier version to start your meal, then MOMOCHAN's Plain Chawanmushi with Yuzu Chili is a good choice to try out.

Don't be deceived with this plain and simple dish describe as 'Plain Chawanmushi', this unassuming dish is no way the ordinary dish for us that night. Chef has topped it with savoury dashi stock to enhance the flavour and add-on a tiny scoop of Yuzu chilli for the extra kick to heighten the tasting experience.

If you are wondering how good is it, my hubby and I have seconds of this yummy dish, downing not one but two bowls of this wonderfully smooth and silky steamed Japanese egg dish.

Christmas Beef Special
RM 31.90

For a dose of protein, we were served with MOMOCHAN's Christmas Beef Special, featuring a 150g Australian Tenderloin - Pan-seared, sous vide then char-grilled served with Japanese Ponzu and grated radish sauce.

Medium rare in the middle, the Australian Beef Tenderloin was tender and presented with a side of a fresh garden rocket or Arugula which was a good complement to the beef dish.

The sour from the radish sauce together with the mild bitterness from the Arugula, adds to the enjoyment of this beefy-Licious festive dish.

Japanese Southern Fried Chicken
RM 20.90

If you are not a fan of beef, then the Japanese Southern Fried Chicken might appeal to many. This hearty main dish consists of two generous portions of Quarter chicken marinated in buttermilk, battered and fried served with Wasabi Coleslaw and Mashed Potatoes. Diners get drumstick and thigh portions for this dish.

I was curious why a fried chicken dish for Christmas meal? To this question, the chef explained that the Japanese love to celebrate Christmas with Kentucky Fried Chicken in Japan. I also found out that Japan's Christmas KFC tradition began in 1974 when KFC launched a new holiday marketing campaign.

It's thought that it was inspired by the Western Christmas tradition of a turkey dinner. Thus, eating KFC food as a Christmas time meal has since become a widely practised custom in Japan. Hence, MOMOCHAN was happy to introduce this speciality of their own version of Southern Fried Chicken!

MOMOCHAN Loves Vegetables
RM 18.90

Providing an option for vegetarians, there's also a vegan noodle dish from the Christmas menu. Diners can order the MOMOCHAN Loves vegetable noodle dish.

A Japanese-fusion dish made from Japanese noodle, the ramen as the pasta and topped with housemade tomato and pumpkin puree. The Enoki mushrooms tempura was coated with crispy and aromatic batter was a treat, with its crunchy texture hitting all the right notes.

Homemade Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream
RM 11.90

Like all meals, the festive meal tasting closes with a dessert. It was an uncomplicated simple but premium homemade Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream to end our dinner.

While un-Japanese is nice enough for any chocolate lovers out there, cause it was Belgian chocolate for the dessert treat.

Thinking of getting more Japanese Karaage Winglets!
