Colourful Festive Feast Awaits Diners At New World Petaling Jaya Hotel
The chefs selected eight dishes, including dessert, for our tasting pleasure during dinner one night.
Prosperity Yee Sang with Jellyfish and Sliced Top Shell
To start off the colourful feast, tossing Yee Sang is a must! We did the customary 'Lou Sang' ceremony - cheering at the dinner table with the Prosperity Yee Sang with Jellyfish and Sliced Top Shell.
The ensemble passed the test, with all the ingredients combining nicely to produce the sensations of sweet, tangy and crunchy all at once.
Braised Seafood Treasures Soup
Next up was the Braised Seafood Treasures Soup. The combination worked well, both visually as well as in taste, with all the ingredients delivering sweetness expected of a premium seafood infused broth.
Crispy Roasted Chicken With Prawn Crackers
Moving on, there's the Crispy Roasted Chicken With Prawn Crackers. The chicken is roasted just right to perfection so that the meat is still juicy and succulent and not dry. The dish was complemented with a nice touch by the crispy prawn crackers.
Steamed Garoupa in Superior Soy Sauce
One of the highlights choices of fish is the Steamed Garoupa in Superior Soy Sauce. The premium fish is steamed just right so that the meat is not too flaky, retaining the right texture for eating and the soy sauce is relatively mild, allowing diners to enjoy the fish meat itself. This fish dish had everyone clamouring for more!
Garoupa's Head - The Best Part Of All For Fish Lovers
My hubby a fish head lover has his treats hitting on the fleshly Garoupa's head and tail down to the bones that night. So fresh and yummy indeed!
Braised Seasonal Vegetables with Dried Oyster Mushrooms, Black Moss and 'Tau Kang'
Braised Seasonal Vegetables with Dried Oyster Mushrooms, Black Moss and 'Tau Kang' is a must-have auspicious traditional festive dish for Chinese New Year. Everyone was enjoying a break from the meat and seafood dishes while enjoying this vegetarian dish on its own.
Deep-Fried Prawns with Wasabi Mayonnaise and Almond Flakes
Next, was the refreshing and colourful dish of Deep-Fried Prawns with Wasabi Mayonnaise and Almond Flakes, another crowd-pleaser when it arrived on the table. Chef Chai, who enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, said the dish was a twist on a festive favourite.
The prawns are large enough coated with batter before being deep-fried to perfect crunchiness and best eaten with the flavourful Wasabi Mayonnaise with Almond Flakes and mixed fruits for the added crunch to heightened the tasting experience.
Assorted Seafood Fried Rice With Anchovies & Tobiko
Rice, another mandatory dish for its auspicious symbolism in a festive meal. In them, rice regarded in Chinese culture as the symbolic link between Heaven and Earth has been given the VIP treatment with assorted seafood, Tobiko and anchovies.
I have to say that this is a winner as I'm not a fan of rice (carbs) but still found the dish appealing with Tobiko that I ate up my allocation and going for second helpings.
Cheng Tang with Dried Longans and Glutinous Rice Balls
The dessert formed the perfect ending to the night, with the Cheng Tang with Dried Longans and Glutinous Rice Balls giving a sweet ending.
Even here, care has been taken to ensure the sweetness quotient is not exceeded in this age of 'kurang manis' (moderate sweetness) for everything. The glutinous rice balls were good and chewy, proving that care has taken to ensure the Chinese New Year offering is good to the last bite.
