KOK SEN Restaurant Famous 'Zi-Char' For Claypot Yong Tau Foo In Singapore

Last month, I took time off to spend my holidays visiting my eldest daughter, Carmen Hong in Singapore. It was indeed an enjoyable time well-spent with my two daughters as we went sight-seeing and checking out some of the best-eats in the Lion City.

This is truly one of the better tasting Yong Tau Foo I had in Singapore during my recent trip here. Heard that KOK SEN Restaurant, a 'Zi-Char' Chinese restaurant is listed in Singapore Michelin Bib Gourmand Guide and is very popular with the locals. So that definitely warrants a visit for the foodie in me! 😋😋😋

My daughter, Carmen, brought me to try this MUST-EAT 'Zi-Char' place called Kok Sen Restaurant that serves spectacular Claypot Yong Tau Foo like no other. Located at Keong Saik Road in Singapore, this place is really easy to find which is just 5 minutes walk from the nearest bus-stop on the main road. If you are travelling by MRT, it's a short walk from the Outram Park MRT Station.

Prior to this, we did had our very satisfying dinner at Ramen Keisuke Lobster King at Clarke Quay - another eatery famous for their delicious lobster broth ramen. Since it was our last night in Singapore and we didn't want to miss out on eating some of the best food in Singapore, we make this trip just for their Claypot Yong Tau Foo!

The conversation goes like this - Daughter said, "Mom, you must try the food here - it's really something special especially the Yong Tau Foo. The paste has tender bites of little white squid inside"!
.
Well, she was right.. we really enjoyed it very much even after dinner earlier at Ramen Keisuke Lobster King, another great place to dine for their awesome lobster broth.

Upon the first bite - you will be hooked on the good-tasting firm and tender texture of the paste-coated with the flavourful sauce. You can taste the mixture of fish, prawn and squid firmly stuffed into the assorted vegetables, braised in an addictive brown tauchu sauce that taste heaven when eaten with plain rice.

Each order of the claypot dish comes with a mixed variety of vegetables such as eggplant, capsicum, beancurd and chilli stuffed with their tasty homemade paste. You can opt for 10 or 20 pieces per pot and each piece is priced at SGD 1.50.

For our order of the small pot, we were served 10 pieces of assorted Yong Tau Foo at SGD 15. I was told that the regular price for Yong Tau Foo is usually at SGD 80 cents to 1 dollar per piece, so it might a little steep if you compare them to other shops.

But in my opinion, this is a fair price to pay for this kind of Yong Tau Foo based on the ingredients used for the filling - using pure fish, prawn and squid paste for it. If you are visiting Singapore for the first time and is a great fan of this kind of cuisine, do take a trip to try it.

As for me, I will definitely come back for more (when I visit my daughter again) and the next time should have a full feast here to check out the rest of the dishes that is best on the menu!
