KIMI-YA Japanese Restaurant At Avantas Residence Old Klang Road Kuala Lumpur

KIMI-YA Japanese Restaurant
Bringing The Best In Japanese Flavours
With A Refreshed Menu

Freshest Seafood From TSUKIJI Fish Market Japan

This is not my first time dining at KIMI-Ya, one of my favourite Japanese restaurants to dine if you are looking for classic and unpretentious Japanese cuisine. You will find good food from the passionate Chef Khim who's always on the go with seasonal changes to its menu to keep things fresh.

Well, I was back here to check out his new dishes in their refreshed menu that were being introduced recently to draw diners and regulars to KIMI-Ya at Avantas Residences Old Klang Road Kuala Lumpur.

Currently, the offering of the season is air-flown Japanese delicacies of freshest seafood from famous TSUKIJI Fish Market in Chuo, Tokyo.

Don't miss their Japanese fish harvested from Japanese island's coaster waters such as Leather Jacket, Scorpion Fish, Gurnard, Ren-Kodai, Isaki and Yanaginomai during this time of the year. This ocean-fresh seafood is the best catch available at Kimi-Ya Japanese Restaurant right now at twice a week on every Tuesday and Friday of the week.

Gurnard

 Isaki

Ren-Kodai

 Scorpion Fish & Yanaginomai

Fresh Air Flown Japanese Delicacies of Sazae (Turbo Comutus)

Apart from that, you need not travel far to enjoy Sazae, a spiky snail-like turbo shellfish harvested Japanese island's coaster waters during this season. Best eaten either grilled or ala-sashimi which brings out its natural sweetness of the fresh seafood.

Kagoshima Wagyu A5

After sashimi, sushi and ramen, Japanese beef is on the list of must-eats for many Japanese food lovers. Whenever premium beef is mentioned, most gourmands would cite Kagoshima Wagyu from Japan as one of the best. The characteristics of the meat are its tenderness and full-bodied flavour, together with well-balanced fat marbling throughout the muscle fibres.

Considered the caviar of beef in Japan, Wagyu  (which literally means "Japanese cow") is priced product from Land of The Rising Sun. KIMI-Ya now brings in the highest grade of the finest A5 WAGYU BEEF in the world from Japan, Kagoshima, renowned for their best finest Wagyu Beef in Japan.

Kagoshima Wagyu (120 grams)

Meat aficionados will appreciate the beefy-licious Kagoshima Wagyu, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper to brings out its rich meat flavour within, it was pan-fried to a perfectly juicy and tender texture leaving a fresh pink on the inside for the natural juices to entice your palate.

Now, you can taste the best Wagyu in the world from Kagoshima Prefecture at Kimi-Ya and be hypnotized by the gorgeous marbling of Wagyu beef!

The steak rested on a bed of pea sprouts which was a great complement to the Wagyu. The meat should be enjoyed while still warm to get its succulent flavour.

Taraba Gani
Grilled King Crab with Salt

Another noteworthy seafood dish to try was the Taraba Gani - Grilled King Crab with Salt. For me, seafood is always best served and cooked either grilled or steamed in its natural juices. So Chef Khim serves the Taraba Gani grilled over high heat and served it hot from the pan. The end result was tender and succulent - super fresh white King crab meat, good to the last morsel.

House Made Udon & Buckwheat Noodles

Apart from the fresh seafood and Wagyu beef, what impresses me when dining in KIMI-Ya is their housemade noodles. Chef Khim has them specially made in-house to maintain it's freshness and authenticity by importing the flour direct from Inaniwa machi, Akita prefecture in Japan. Truly a rare find in town!

Famous Inaniwa Udon

Buckwheat Noodles

Zaru Soba
Cold Buckwheat Noodles Served With Dipping Sauce

Zaru Soba is another cold noodles dish featuring fresh buckwheat noodles and a delicious dipping sauce with additions like finely chopped scallion, grated daikon, wasabi and raw quail egg.

Served chilled on a bamboo mat, they are accompanied by a dipping sauce and are dipped into the dipping sauce before eating. This refreshing and healthy dish is perfect for a hot day and is easy on the tummy too.

Curry Udon
Wheat Noodles Served in Japanese Curry

For noodles dish, perhaps you should try the Curry Udon with their housemade fresh al dente udon. The Japanese curry udon is fragrant and spicier but less sweet as compared to the regular Japanese curry.

Although I'm not a great fan of udon as many ones that I tried as too soft and starchy, the KIMI-Ya's housemade udon was really something special. It has a chewy texture - the al dente kind, easy-to-slurp, so delicious in the creamy and thick curry sauce that coats the strand.

Matsu Sashimi Moriawase (7 Types)
Salmon, White Tuna, Amberjack and Tuna Belly, Scallop, Octopus and Pink Shrimp

Also on the menu are not-to-be-missed Matsu Sashimi Moriawase - a must-have in any Japanese dining to check out their day's best and freshest catch. Choose from 4, 6 to 7 different kinds of selected sashimi to suit your taste and budget.

Octopus

If you are a sashimi fan, then the sashimi platter will be a heaven for you. Our Matsu Sashimi Moriawase, a sumptuous spread of  7 kinds of sashimi which includes Salmon, White Tuna, Amberjack and Tuna Belly, Scallop, Octopus as well as Pink Shrimp.

Foie Gras Teriyaki (2 pcs)

Pan-Fried Foie Gras & Mushroom with Teriyaki Sauce

Right after the mini feasting with the sashimi platter, we moved to taste some rich flavours of  Foie Gras Teriyaki. Living true to its name with fragrant textures playing on the tongue upon the first bite, combining well with the housemade teriyaki sauce and Shimeji mushrooms.

Appetisers
  Kaori Bako Kani Salad

Also on the new menu is the Kaori Bako Kani Salad and Yaki Pirikara Edamame.

 Crabmeat with Assorted Vegetables

Yaki Pirikara Edamame

Boiled & Baked Green Soybean with Chili Powder

 Warabi- Mochi

Finally, cleanse your palate with the new dessert, a refreshing taste of Warabi Mochi. One of the most popular sweet in Kansai area, Warabi Mochi is bracken starch dumpling served with Brown sugar syrup and Kinako, roasted soybean powder.

I was told by the chef that name of 'Warabimochi' comes from an edible wild plant 'Warabi' (bracken) which is the raw material of 'Warabimochi'. Everyone enjoyed the soft, bite-size morsels of Warbi mochi dusted with Kinako powder, fine-grained and nutty flavours.

It was served chilled, deliciously chewy, jelly-like mochi - cool on the tongue offering a slight chew before quickly dissolving into a delicate sweetness. Another must-try dessert!
