The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur Celebrates Dragon Boat Festival With Indulgent Dumplings At LI YEN Chinese Restaurant
The "Zong Zi' or the much-celebrated Dragon Boat Festival comes early to me as I was one of the few lucky guests invited to taste their specially crafted three signature rice dumpling at LI YEN, their Chinese restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur.
The festive Chinese dumplings play a significant part in my life. A nostalgic food, I grew up eating my late mom's homemade 'Zong' she specially made for me with selected few of my favourite ingredients of lean pork, salted egg yolk, fried dry shrimps, chestnuts and dhal (yellow split peas).
After my mom passed on, I was lucky to have my mother-in-law who makes mine special too while my aunt will craft some delicious sambal belacan dumplings for my family and me. So every year in the month of May and June while savouring these Chinese dumplings, they always bring back lovely memories of my beloved mother, mum-in-law and my aunt, Fei Po Po! 😢😢😢
Zong Zi, or glutinous rice dumpling, is a traditional Chinese favourite most commonly made and savoured during the much-celebrated Dragon Boat Festival. Following a centuries-old recipe, these parcels of indulgent and hearty glutinous rice are filled with a variety of ingredients, wrapped in bamboo and lotus leaves and steamed till fragrant and succulent.

In the month of May, Master Chef Leung Kwai Hong and his team are crafting three signature dumplings for the upcoming Festival. The savoury Duck and Chestnut Glutinous Rice Dumpling is an exquisite creation that includes duck meat, salted egg yolk, chestnut and dried scallops.
Lotus Paste and Red Bean Paste Glutinous Rice Dumpling
Sweet offerings served are in the form of Lotus Paste and Red Bean Paste Glutinous Rice Dumpling, a favourite amongst the sweet-toothed.

Best Eaten With Honey As Dipping Sauce
Available from May 17 to 30, the Duck and Chestnut Dumpling is priced at MYR 43 nett each and MYR 16 nett each for the Lotus Paste and Red Bean Paste Dumpling. These dumplings are available for dine-in and takeaway.
