Healthy & Delicious Mission Bentos For Kids

They demonstrated their version of the Mission Bento Box and share tips on keeping your bento sets pretty and exciting! Consultant dietitian Indra Balaratnam will also share her bento box recipe and how to create an exceptional and nutritious Mission Bento Box!
Delicious & Cute Mission Bento Box
I have always advocated healthy eating in my family. When my kids were younger, I usually prepare home cooked nutritious and yet tasty packed lunch or snacks for them to eat at school. They love my tuna, egg and chicken sandwiches, steam buns, fried rice, mini pizzas and egg/potato salad, just to name a few.
Getting my kids to eat better while keeping the meal exciting and fun on a daily basis is never easy especially with my foodie kids. They do have their 'Cheat Days' once a week where I allowed them to buy fast food from the school canteen such as nuggets, fries, hot dogs and burgers too. 😒😒😒
I wished I have known about the wonders of preparing these exciting Bento boxes, filled with wholesome and nutritious food giving my beloved daughters and son a healthier option for meals in school!
With this Bento workshop, Mission Foods aims at inspiring mothers who are struggling with ideas on how to get their kids to eat better and running out of ideas on ways to create a nutritious and yet fun-packed lunch for their little ones.

Artistry is what differentiates Bento boxes from normally packed lunches. That touch of fun and whimsy in how the food is prepared and artistically arranged makes eating lunch all that more enjoyable and a great way to introduce new appetising and healthy food in tiny, pretty portions for children. For example, boiled eggs are a great form of protein for children and a clever way to get them to enjoy it is to shape it like a bunny! 🐰🐰🐰

Starting off the Mission Foods Bento Workshop introducing the art of bento, dietitian, Indra Balaratnam, also a mum to an 11-year old daughter, Skyler, said that one of the best investments a parent can make is to create a positive relationship with food so that their children grow up to become healthy and confident. With a little imagination and creativity, any loving mom can create a cute and appetising bento incorporating healthy, seasonal items leaving out sugary snacks, and junk food.

"Children get excited by many things, ranging from dinosaurs, mermaids, cars or cute little animals, and they love anything colourful so why not incorporate what appeals to them into a lunch box to encourage them to eat better? Mom's special and loving touch will definitely go a long way to ensuring they receive the best nourishment they need to be healthy and active," she asserted.

Indra demonstrated Chicken and Cheese Quesadillas using Mission 6-Grain Wraps, shaped into dinosaurs grazing in a flower garden. The flower garden was cleverly made up of leafy salad strewn with edible flowers. At the side was a Dinosaur Nest made up of a base of Mission Tortilla Chips, mixed nuts and a boiled egg with dots coloured with beetroot juice.

"I've made a good number of Bentos for my two daughters and this recipe is a sure win with them. What I always do is to cut out cute shapes using cookie cutters and they get really excited about that. I'm also a huge believer in eating right and being active so I want to inspire my girls to do the same," quipped Aishah, a dedicated mom to Soraya Ann, aged 7 and Aina Elisabeth, aged 3.

Too Pretty To Eat ~ The Mission Bento Box
"Food presented attractively looks, more appetising, since we eat with our eyes as much as our taste buds and stomachs. Through this collaboration with these influential moms, we hope to inspire more mothers to get artistic and at the same time more mindful about what they feed their children. A bento is a fun and engaging way to do this. Our products are nutritious, easy to prepare, and taste good with so many diverse ingredients - perfect for bentos," said Constantino.
Thumbs Up To Sazzy Falak's Snazzy Mission Bento Box
We were given a hands-on session at the DIY Bento Bar at The Cooking House after the demonstration. Since my Mission Bento Box is supposed to feed two hungry children at home; my daughter and son waiting for a busy blogger mommy to feed them dinner while I'm covering the event, I have made 2 set of meals for each of them.
My Mission Bento consists of Mission 6-Grain Wraps topped with tasty and flavourful Chicken and Cheese filling, more cheese wrapped with fresh leafy salad. I choose to use the healthier 6-Grain Wraps for it's high in fibre and nutrients as compared to the rest of Mission Foods products.
I also made a quick side salad of broccoli and cauliflower, prettied up with edible flowers for the added colour.
My second set of Mission Bento was made of Mission 6-Grain Wraps wrapped with tasty Tandoori Chicken, salad, and more cheese for the extra cheesy flavour. My kids at home just love anything with cheese. At the side was a boiled egg, on the base of mixed nuts.
More leafy salad and edible flowers for the smaller compartment with sweet grapes and cherry tomatoes making up most of the nutritional needs for a healthy meal.
Overall, I do enjoy the Bento Workshop today, and gain lots of knowledge and information plus health tips on how to prepare a fun, creative and colourful bento lunch box not only for my children but for myself too!
