Lai Ching Yuen Chinese Restaurant in Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur "All You Can Eat Dim Sum Buffet" At Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur

LAI CHING YUEN CHINESE RESTAURANT
Perfect Setting For
A Dim Sum Feast
DIM Sum lovers, take note. Lai Ching Yuen Chinese Restaurant at Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur is having a special dim sum promotion with "All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum Buffet" for RM 78Nett per pax and there are more than 50 selections of tasty dim sum offered in the menu.

Lai Ching Yuen Chinese Restaurant has not only provided the perfect setting for a dim sum feast but with its stylish oriental decor and calming ambience, family and friends are assured of the perfect dining experience in its restaurant.

At a recent private food tasting event with my foodie family and friends, we sampled a sumptuous dim sum treats prepared by Lai Ching Yuen's Dim Sum Chef, Chef Thye Yoon Kong. Dim sum is one of my favourite food to eat, so I'm pretty excited to taste the array of bite-sized dishes served in small round plates.

Choose from their menu with steamed, baked, deep-fried dim sum to steamed rice rolls, noodles, rice, soup, mains, dessert to even appetisers to whet your appetite before you indulge yourself in their wide variety of tasty morsels!

APPETISERS
Black Fungus & Cucumber In Special Dressing

Take your pick from their appetisers list to prep your tummy up before the feast. Black Fungus & Cucumber In Special Dressing is a good choice if you are looking for something healthy, light, refreshing and spicy.

Deep Fried Golden Enoki Mushroom

Another great-tasting appetiser to eat before everything else. The Deep Fried Golden Enoki Mushroom is something quite sinful but absolutely tasty. Beware ah, it can be quite addictive as it's crispy and crunchy texture can get you to eat it non-stop too!

STEAMED DIM SUM
 Star Of The Day
Steamed Siew Mai With Fish Roe

This is one of the best I ever tasted so far. An appealing dish, with a generous topping of fish roe (my favourite) resting beautifully atop the plump steamed Siew Mai. I approached the dish with caution as I have never eaten any Siew Mai with so much fish roe toppings before.

Best eaten while it's still hot, but be careful as the fish roe might fall over. Do it like how I eat it; hold the spoon and just take one big mouthful of the Siew Mai. don't attempt to bite it in half. Take small bites, savour every piece of the morsel of tender pork and prawn meat within the wanton skin. Once in a while, you'll bite into the savoury fish roe... so heavenly!

Seafood Dumpling With Spinach

Another favourite is the Seafood Dumpling With Spinach. A feast for the eyes nicely plated dim sum, well-prepared with chilli sauce and coriander leaves as decor, I love the bouncy texture of the plump and juicy prawn encased in the translucent 'Har Gow" wrappings. Winner for the best in presentation!

 Steamed Prawn Dumpling

A classic of the dim sum,  Steamed Prawn Dumpling or "Har Gow" is a must-have at any dim sum meal. Everyone loves the prawns only filling, with chunks of prawn barely visible through the stretchy delicate wheat starch skin that encases the filling.

A simple test to see if the "Har Gow" is well-made is by checking the skin. It should be translucent yet sturdy, slightly chewy but not tough, with perfectly cooked, crisp prawn inside. As "Har Gow" is one of the most widely recognised dim sum classics, Chef Thye nailed it perfectly, this time, Thumbs up to that!

 Steamed Home Made Fish Ball

Oh mine... eating these bouncy flavourful Fish Ball brings back lots of sweet memories to me. My late dad would take me out every Sunday to a nearby dim sum restaurant and let me eat these to my heart content. Anyhow, I can't remember how it tasted, but the ones at Lai Ching Yuen is pretty good as Chef Thye made these from scratch with fresh fish paste.

Steamed Beancurd Roll With Oyster Sauce

If you're like me, someone who loves beancurd sheets or "Fu Chok" prepared in any form, then I can assure you that you'll enjoy eating these Steamed Beancurd Roll With Oyster Sauce. Beancurd sheets wrapped tightly around the fish paste filling and cooked with savoury oyster sauce for the added flavour.

Steamed Spare Ribs With Yam & Garlic

This is not your typical Steamed Spare Ribs dim sum. Chef Thye has jazzed it up with some soft yam to soak up the sauce from the  steamed spare ribs. Good to taste but the portion is best shared with someone else as you may not want to stuff yourself mad with pork ribs and miss out the rest of the goodies, right?

Steamed Spinach Dumpling With Preserved Vegetable

Haha... this special creation doesn't go too well for me. Basically, it's a vegetarian dim sum filled with shredded carrots, black fungus (Mok Yee), mushroom, turnip and everything else that super good for your health. First time tasting this type of dim sum, maybe it takes a time to get used to a non-meat dim sum.

Steamed Szechuan Wanton

Looks good but not my type of dim sum as I like mine simple and mild tasting. But you may like to try it if you're into something different from the norm with this spicy and sourish Steamed Szechuan Wanton.

Steamed Custard Bun With Egg Yolk

Another Must Try is  Steamed Custard Bun with Egg Yolk aka "Liu Sha Bao". I must try it at any other dim sum restaurants I go to and the ones here are equally tasty. Savoury salted egg yolk dripping out once you tear the bun apart. Eat it hot, savour the warm sweet and savoury bun to your heart's content.

Steamed Barbeque Pork Bun

Steamed Bun With Chinese Sausage

If you like mantou with Chinese sausage, this could be a good choice of dim sum to try. Soft and fluffy mantou wrapped around a whole sausage. It's too overwhelming for me as I like to eat Chinese sausages served in thin slices.

Steamed Lotus Paste With Egg Yolk

Traditional Steamed Cake

Pick this Traditional Steamed Cake if you're searching to try a soft and melt-in-mouth steamed cake. Very light and fragrant with the palm sugar, just like the 'Malai Kuih' topped with roasted almond slices for the added crunch.

Steamed Glutinous Rice With Lard Meat

Steamed Chicken Feet With Black Pepper

Steamed Turnip Cake With Dried Shrimp

The normal turnip cake is given a twist in preparation. Instead of frying, Chef Thye steamed it to give it more moist and softer texture. Taste great with fragrant dried shrimp and chopped scallions.

Steamed Rice Rolls With Shrimp

Steamed Rice Rolls With Preserved Vegetable

Well, this is something different. Steam Rice Rolls served topped with salted Mui Choy to blend in with the bland "Chee Cheong Fun".

DEEP FRIED DIM SUM
Wok Fried Turnip Cake

As we dig in, more plates and bamboo baskets land on the table. Some are simply wonderful and sinful too, like the Wok Fried Turnip Cake. As sinful as it may be, I cannot resist not eating this plate of Wok-Hei chunky cubes of turnip cake, stir fried with lots of egg, bean sprout, chives and Chinese sausage.

Pan Fried Nian Gao

The Signature Pan Fried Nian Gao is a must-try as it can hardly be found anywhere else during the rest of the year, that is except during the Lunar New Year. A traditional Chinese New Year cake called "Nian Gao" house made by the chef himself.

It's cut into thick slices, dipped in egg batter and fried to perfection. Not too sweet, you can taste the chewiness from the warm melted "Nian Gao" with the crispy outside of the fried egg.

Deep Fried Yam Puff

Pan Fried Bun With Vegetables & Pork

Pan Fried Pork Dumpling With Chives

Deep Fried Sesame Ball With Lotus Paste

NOODLES
Stir Fried Flat Noodle with Mix Vegetable

Chef also spoilt us with his simple but appetising noodles dish. An unassuming dish of Stir Fried Flat Noodle with Mix Vegetable, but it tasted good although it looks lacking in meat or seafood. Full of Wok-Hei, with the right ingredients and perhaps some secret flavouring on such a plain looking dish!

PORRIDGE
Porridge with Bonito Fish & Peanut

Out of the 2 types of porridge available, I will choose to have the premium porridge that is cooked with special Bonito and soft big peanuts. The porridge has the fragrance of the soft peanut when you chew on it, while the dried fish (Bonito) gives it a mild saltiness and sweetness. Yummy!

Porridge With Century Egg

DESSERT
While under the dessert section, you can pick from Chilled Sea Coconut, Red Bean Soup or Hot Barley with Ginko Nut and Chinese Pancakes. My favourite is, of course, the Hot Barley With Ginko Nut. Loved the creamy texture with soft barley within. Healthy and nutritious dish to drink to end our incredibly delicious feast of Dim Sum!

Good Family Shot Taken After Our Dim Sum Dining

All-in-all, Lai Ching Yuen Chinese Restaurant "Eat-All-You-Can Dim Sum Buffet" is a real treat with more than 50 types of dim sum to choose from. Value for money offer for only RM 78nett, you and your family can savour a wide variety of dim sum, made-to-order a la carte style.

As for me, this tasting luncheon or 'Yumcha' session is not originally about eating, but much more to that. Tea and conversation both played a huge role in dim sum as my foodie family always bonds over great food and good company. Bon Appetite!!!
