Camera shy ~ Chef Machi has more than 20 years experience in preparing Japanese cuisine. To bring out the best of Yuzen's contemporary Japanese dishes, Chef Machi put emphasis on serving only the freshest of the fresh. He ensures on the freshness and authenticity of his dishes which are he sourced personally direct from the local import house. Tuesday and Friday are his marketing days where he replenishes his fresh stock air-flown, direct from Japan. So I would recommend diners to drop by Yuzen on these two days to get the freshest catch!

Crab Meat Salad
RM 22

Kicking off the review was an entrée of a light Crab Meat Salad. Chock-full of fresh, raw veggies, with slices of avocados and crab meat, served topped with tasty red tobiko and crispy deep fried salmon skin. Loves the taste of bits of crispy fish skin as I munch through the fresh salad drizzled with savoury sesame dressing. So delicious and guilt free!

Omakase Sashimi
(Market Price)

Keeping sashimi lovers in mind, Chef Machi offers a delectable assortment of seven types of sashimi for it patrons to savour when dining in Yuzen.

Beautifully served on a plate was premium cuts of Omakase Sashimi ~ Perfect for those wanting to experience the different textures from different types of seasonal fishes has to offer. From sweet, melt-in-mouth softness to slightly bitter tang, the fish's freshness was evident in each slice of the sashimi servings. Spanklingly fresh with silken texture in a culinary class of its own, was simply heaven to taste!

Tuna Takaki Avocado
RM 22

Another starter to consider is the Tuna Avocado Salad. Tuna slices, lightly pan-fried, are further enhanced in taste by toppings of avocado, fresh greens and zuchini. The execution is simple, refreshing and light on the stomach.

Tuna Avocado Salad relies on its fresh flavours, by throwing in salad greens, avocado slices and succulent slices of tuna with sesame and shoyu dressing.

Omakase Platter with 7 Kinds ~ Nigiri
 RM 75

One thing Yuzen patrons should not miss out is the Omakase Nigiri Platter. Sumptuous spread of specialty sushi which include the Salmon Roe, Toro, Tuna, Salmon, Ankimo and others. Those craving for nigiri sushi will certainly love the luscious topping of the assorted fresh seafood. In Yuzen Japanese Restaurant, nigiri sushi is offered on a combination platter, so that diners can try several different types at once.

A Must Try : Chef Machi's Special in-house made Fresh Wasabi

Nigiri and Sashimi are traditionally accompanied with a variety of condiments and sauces such as pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. Here in Yuzen, Chef Machi serves a special in-house wasabi which he made entirely from scratch. The fresh wasabi concoction is best eaten with sashimi without the shoyu according to Chef Machi as it brings out the natural taste of the fresh seafood in the sashimi. A Must-try as many Japanese restaurants serve only the ready-made paste-like wasabi instead of this freshly made one, courtesy of Yuzen!

Seafood Chawan Mushi
 RM 10

Crab Meat Chawan Mushi
 RM 10

No dining Japanese experience is complete without tasting the all-time-favourite Chawanmushi. We have our first of taste of  Kani Chawanmushi mushroom which literally mean "tea cup steam" in Japanese. Yuzen's version is superb, as it's smooth as silk.

A flavourful stock broth of chicken bones, Japanese leek, cabbage, carrots, ginger, onions and garlic boiled for 6 hours are used to make the base broth for chawanmushi. A savoury egg custard dish with perfect smooth texture, downing one bowl is simply never enough for me!

Surume Ika Teriyaki (Squid)
RM 20.50

The Surume Ika Teriyaki (Squid) is tantalising epicurean dish for seafood lovers. Well-seasoned thick Japanese squid grilled to perfection. served in chunky slices with Chef Machi's house made squid roe sauce. While the grilled squid is good on it own, but it's made tastier if you eat it with the special sauce. A unique sauce made special as it's made from squid ink and roe, this is a Must-try dish if you enjoy seafood a lot!

An Unforgettable Dish

Chicken Teriyaki
RM 13.50

Another classic Japanese dish is the Chicken in Teriyaki Style. Tender thigh and drumstick pieces sitting in a light sauce of Japanese soy sauce (shoyu), rice wine (mirin) and sugar . You will be delighted with the flavour with salty and slightly sweet, great for the family. Aromatic crispy boneless chicken and perfect pairing with steaming white rice. Love this and I can never get enough of this .....
