Minamotonoya Cafe @ Bandar Baru Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur ~ Fresh And New Fusion Japanese Food

Minamotonoya Cafe
Fresh & New Fusion Japanese Food

Are you are looking for some simple yet tasty Japanese infused pasta but do not want to burn a hole in your pocket? Or how about the taste of some heavenly Japanese tofu cheese cake with some super cute and too-pretty-to-be-eaten water mochi to help you unwind after a day of hardwork?

If your answer is 'Yes', then head over to a nice, comfy and laid-back cafe called Minamotonoya Cafe located at Glass City, Bandar Seri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

Frankly speaking, I been staying around this area for more than 10 years but hardly wandered off to this new place (Glass City) that had been around for 2 years. Minamotonoya Cafe opened its door to customers in October 2014 barely 3 months ago and have been enjoying smooth flow of patrons ever since.

During my review, I notice that their promotional Set Lunches are very popular with the hungry patrons, young and old alike. Young adults groups seems to be enjoying this simple and wholesome Japanese fusion cooking at  Minamotonoya Cafe.

Newly renovated cafe is now furnished with comfortable, stylish and spacious seating to cater for large group dining capacity.

Tucked in suburban area of Bandar Sri Petaling, Minamotonoya Cafe's cosy interior and quality food has made it the neighbour's latest favourite spot to eat for some Japanese fusion dishes.

I was impressed with set-up of this table cum work top complete with electric socket for diners on-the-go to eat, dine and work on their computers or even charge their hand phone while dining at the cafe. How thoughtful!

Charming little handmade handicraft with WIFI password placed on each table

Creatively Crafted DIY Menu

Coffee poster and handmade ceramic animals of piggy, hedgehog and cute little doggy adorned the cafe, giving it a cheery and homely feel.

Minamotonoya Cafe is offering Set Lunches (11.30am to 3pm) at only RM 9.90 with selection of 4 types of dishes from Bacon Egg Sandwiches, Oyakodon (Rice), Wafu Aglio olio to Chicken Teriyaki Spaghetti. Meanwhile Cheese Pork Spaghetti is priced at RM 12.90 for Set Lunch offer. Value for money deal as each of the set lunch comes with a free ice lemon tea too!

I decide to kick start off my Minamotonoya's experience with a light and pure hot Jasmine Green Tea to clear my mind and soothe my tummy for the delicious food I am about to taste.

Healthy Jasmine Green Tea
RM 8.90

We were served with 3 varieties of pasta but I shall review them in the order of the BEST to my LEAST favourite based on my personal preference and taste.

Spaghetti served with Fried Cheese Pork Chop
RM 15.90

A pasta dish of aglio olio spaghetti cooked with shimeji mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, garlic, herbs served topped with cheesy pork chop rolls.

The bonus side of this dish is of course the delicious cheese pork chop which is delightfully crispy on the outside but tender and well-marinated on the inside, and served with savoury cheese sauce. A winner combination of classic dishes, something cheesy with something simple like the aglio olio pasta. You can also choose to have your pasta served in tomato sauce (bolognese style) instead, if you like.

Chef cum owner Nexus Wong explained that the pork cutlets are marinated, rolled up and coated in breadcrumbs before being deep fried to golden perfection. Cheese sauce are poured over to enhance the dish, so hearty and comforting!

Spaghetti served with Teriyaki Chicken
RM 10.90

Next on my yummy list is the Teriyaki Chicken with Aglio olio pasta. Tender and juicy chicken thigh meat is marinated with teriyaki sauce and grilled to an absolute flavourful dish. Combining the taste of Japanese and Italian cuisines, Chef Nexus's distinctive deconstruction of dishes excites diners who are seeking an exquisite dining experience.

All Pasta dish comes with an option of Aglio olio style or Carbonara style (white sauce).

Wafu Shimeji Mushroom Aglio Olio
RM 10.90

Last but not least, it's a simple and light dish without the pork or chicken. Spaghetti Aglio Olio cooked with shimeji mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, garlic, herbs served topped bonito flakes for added flavour. Best bet if you are looking to have a meatless or vegetarian meal for the dish.

Overall, all the pasta dishes are good in its own way, whatever you prefer to eat it with pork, chicken or bonito flakes. For me, the best bet and value for money got to be the Spaghetti with Fried Cheese Pork Chop priced at RM 15.90 (Ala-carte menu), selling for RM 12.90 for Set Lunch Deal and comes with a complimentary ice-lemon tea to wash it down.

Bacon Egg Sandwiches
RM 10.90

An unassuming burger or sandwich from Minamotonoya Cafe but pack a punch with it's home made smoked bacon, fried egg, salad, mayo dressing sandwiched between a wholesome home made ciabatta bun. Pretty impressive Chef Nexus made all his bacon and bread in his kitchen. Premium pork belly is cured for 3 days, prior to being smoked and serves to his diners.

What I liked about the bacon is the fact it is well-flavoured, juicy, tasteful and not dry at all. Well, I wished he can comes out a new menu to serve his yummy home made bacon in some of his pasta dishes!

Coming up is the Desserts offerings from Minamotonoya Cafe. Again, Chef Nexus puts his culinary skills to serve diners with his selections of in house made cakes ranging from his special creation of Tofu Cheese Cake, Wafu Macha Cake, Tiramisu, Chocolate Cake to all-time-favourite Blueberry Cheese Cake too.

Tofu Cheese Cake
RM 9.90

Chilled Delights of  Tofu Cheese Cake

Minamotonoya Cafe's Tofu Cheese Cake is simply irresistible, a heavenly melt-in-the-mouth dessert. Made from premium Philadelphia cream cheese, this 'no-baked' Japanese cheese cake is a good choice for those looking to taste a light cream cheese cake unlike the rich and heavy kind. Smooth and creamy, not too cheesy ~ a little out of the ordinary but it's sure to be a hit with many. Thumbs up for that!

Water Mochi
RM 6.90

Minamotonoya Cafe's Water Mochi is absolutely one of the cutest mochi I ever seen and tasted. A creative combination of art and food with clever use of cutlery with pretty motifs of kitty or teddy bear face.

This looks like a large drop of water but it’s actually a cake! It's called Mizu Shingen Mochi, clear rice cake dessert resembling an enormous water drop. A Japanese-style dessert made from gyuhi served with kinako soybean powder (roasted soyabean powder) and eaten with brown sugar syrup poured over it.

Well-known Japanese Rice-Cake Dessert ~ Shingen Mochi

Looking like a huge drop of water magically suspended in solid form, it's so delicate it needs to be consumed in less than 30 minutes, after which it will turn into a sweet puddle of water!

I enjoyed tasting this cute and clear, jelly-like cake that have a pleasant natural sweetness with the rich kinako powder and brown sugar syrup and it goes incredibly smoothly down my throat. The taste is amazing!

Now, you don't need to travel to Japan to taste this amazingly cute water mochi as you can eat it right here at Minamotonoya Cafe!

Pretty place to pose pictures too
