THE PERFECT KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN

Pelicana Chicken Malaysia, a Korean fried chicken fast food franchise, has become a new kid on the block, gaining popularity in among diners here eager for the taste of the unique fried chicken, Korean-style.
At a recent food review at Pelicana Chicken Malaysia located E-Curve Mall, Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, I had a BIG TASTING of Korean Fried Chicken which the restaurant takes pride in.
I shall be listing my Top favourite to the Least favourite according to my personal preference in this post of mine. Here goes ....
Chicken Peli Crunchy Chicken (Original Crunchy)

Top in my list is the Chicken Peli Crunchy Chicken (Original Crunchy) flavour. I just loved the crunch it gave when you sink your teeth into the juicy meat. Lovely crunch on tastier and crispier Korean fried chicken that has universal appeal with fried chicken lovers. Very flavourful, good enough to eat on its own as it was not too salty with the right texture and taste.
The chicken wings and drumsticks were absolutely tasty and I liked chicken wings more than drumsticks. Much emphasis were given to the serving size as they only served drumsticks weighing around 100 to 110 grams and wings at 90 to 95 grams, thus giving their customers the edge in quality and value in money.
Spring Onion Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken

Next, Spring Onion Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken was one of my favourite version too. Served with topped with thinly sliced spring onion and a healthy drizzling of sweet soy-mustard sauce. It had a appetising taste of mustard with wasabi after taste to it. Very addictive and delicious eaten on its own.

Smaller and juicier chicken parts are used for this popular Spring Onion Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken. Pelicana Chicken Malaysia give you smaller portions, where only the winglets and drummets are used. Each winglet and drummet weighs around 40 to 45 grams which is just the right size, not too small neither too big in portion.

Third on my list is this Charcoal BBQ Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken. It's Pelicana's second hottest chicken dish. The spiciness was still bearable to many as it hits your mouth after a while. Diners who like their chicken with a spicy kick should try this.
Hot Spice Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken

Here's Pelicana's hottest chicken dish. Apart from being known as the oldest chicken franchise; they started by selling tong dak in the ‘80s. They are also famous for their hot sauce chicken, especially the ultra-spicy sauce one. I have tasted other franchisees' spicy sauce option as well, but I found Pelicana's the tastiest in flavour.
Koreans called this ‘bul dak’ (불닭, fire chicken) because the spiciness level usually induces tears and a fiery mouth. If you like hot and spicy food, the hotter the better – this is for you. Challenging dish for its extra hot, extra spicy with extra kick that brings a burning sensation to your mouth and later to your throat!
Original Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken

Last but not least was the Original Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken. Each deep fried winglet and drummet was tossed in a thick sweet and slightly spicy sauce. I found it a bit too daunting eating these sticky yangnyeom-tongdak on its own, maybe it could be better eaten with some rice and salad instead.

Anyway, if you like savoury sweet sauce chicken, this should be a good choice for you. But remember to order sides of rice, seasoned radish and seaweed salad to go with this dish.
Yellow Sauce

Remember to try out their special house made 'Deli Sauce' or known as Yellow Sauce to the diners with your Chicken Peli Crunchy Chicken. Unlike typical fried chicken, there’s no need for a dip or tomato ketchup, as the crispy hot-from-the-oil chicken tastes absolutely heavenly with this mustard cum wasabi flavour sauce.

Diners can also order it with a set with korean fragrant rice and two types of banchan or side dishes such as Musaengchae (Seasoned Radish) and Miyeok Muchim (Seaweed Salad). These sides makes a delicious accompaniment for the deep fried chicken as it helps cut through the greasy taste.

As our tummies could only accommodate so much, we went with Affogato Solo to end our chicken-licious dinner that night.

Overall, PELICANA CHICKEN MALAYSIA is a great place to eat for fried chicken lovers.You get a variety of sauces like spicy, sweet and savoury flavours. Choose from the original to the savoury or spicy ones to suit your palate. Eat your fried chicken the moment it hits your table. If the portion is too huge for you, share with your friends. It can be extremely addictive, so don’t be surprised if you can finish the whole platter by yourself. Bon Appetite !
