Choi's Don & Dak Korean Table Teppan BBQ Restaurant ~ Don & Dak Galbi @Kuchai Entrepreneur Park Old Klang Road

New And Delicious Korean Restaurant
~ Choi's Don & Dak ~

Fans of  Korean cuisine are pretty spoilt for choice these days, with most major malls containing at least one, if not more, Korean restaurants. That said, sometimes going off the usual mall circuit to a place like Choi's Don & Dak located at Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park can lead to a gastronomic adventure.

Choi's Don & Dak boasts of being the 1st Korean Restaurant in Klang Valley serving both Pork (Don) and Chicken (Dak) under the same roof. Here you can have the choice of choosing either Pork or Chicken Dak Galbi unlike the other Korean restaurants eg. ~ Uncle Jang or Mr Dak Galbi that served only chicken in their menu.

Relatively a new restaurant that opened it doors to customers barely than a week ago, I noticed that they have been enjoying brisk business ever since. Families and young adults groups were seen to be enjoying this wholesome and delicious cooking.

Choi's Don & Dak offers a comfortable and casual environment for you and your friends to dine in. Totally a no-frills restaurant - simple and clean but the unusual hand written messages written on the new walls attracted me. Satisfied diners are allowed to write or post messages on the restaurant's wall for fun and remembrance.

Dak Galbi, is a popular traditional Korean dish generally prepared by stir-frying marinated chicken dices in a gochujang (chili pepper paste) based sauce, sliced cabbage, potato, scallions, onions, carrots and tteok (rice cake) together on a hot plate or pan.

Dak Galbi is a delicious, spicy grilled chicken dish that’s a popular choice for friends who are getting together to go out to eat. Traditionally a  communal dish that’s always shared among a small, intimate group of people, so it naturally stimulates conversation and a good time.

Eating Dak Galbi is great fun for all, especially families and friends. You will enjoy eating Dak Galbi because it's a healthy meal and low in fat content.

Awesome Messages from Satisfied Diners

The messages on the wall kept me entertained while we waited for our food to be cooked. So many happy postings and messages on how good and tasty the food was written and drawn at this brand new Choi's Don & Dak.

There is a minimum order of 2 pax and you could choose either the non-spicy or spicy portion. You can choose to have Dak Galbi ~ Chicken (Marinated Grilled Chicken) at RM 19.80 per person or Jumuluck ~ Pork (Marinated Grilled Pork) at RM 22.50 per person.

Enjoying my Mocktails before dinner

Nojito RM 7.50, Virgin Colada RM 7.50 & Classic Shirley Temple RM 6.50
(Left to right)

While waiting for the food to be ready, we drank our non-alcoholic mocktails. Classic Shirley Temple, Nojito and Virgin Colada are the 3 picks available in the menu. I enjoyed drinking my choice of mocktail for the nite ~ Virgin Colada, it's creamy and thick with a nice taste of the coconut milk overpowering the pineapple juice.

Eating Dak Galbi is like a waiting game.  Everyone at the dinner table just have to sit and wait patiently for the food to be cooked while the strong aroma of gochujang (chili pepper paste) based sauce attacked your senses. It's good though as it helps you to salivate non-stop, whiffing in the spicy aroma once in a while before everyone digs in.

We were lucky when we have the honour of Madam Grace, Korean owner of  Choi's Don & Dak cooking up her family recipe on the hot pan for us that night.

Serving piping hot straight from the cast iron frying pan, I really enjoyed eating this flavourful and spicy DakGalbi and Jumuluck. I remember travelling to Seoul, I first ate the chicken on its own. I like it better now eaten in a lettuce wrap with the side dishes.

Unlimited servings Banchan ~ kimchi, mash potatoes & pickled onions to go with our meal

Eat your Dakgalbi or Jumuluck in Lettuce Wrap

If you think it's too salty, try eating it as a wrap with lettuce. Spread some sauce on the lettuce, topped it with the hot Dak Galbi, raw garlic, green chillies and kimchi, wrap it up and you got yourself a healthy yet delicious Dak Galbi wrap!

At Choi's Don & Dak, you have the option of adding in side dishes for a more fulling meal. They have a selection of sides for you to choose from assorted sausages and mushrooms to Korean Ramyun, Udon, Rice Cake or even some cheesy Mozzarella cheese to jazz up your DakGalbi or Jumuluck!

Fried Rice with Lettuce, Seaweed and Special Red Sauce

Next, we were served the Korean-style Fried Rice with Dry Laver. Honestly I didn't enjoy the fried rice although the flavour was well absorbed within the rice together with the seaweed and gochujang. I don't know it's me or what, the rice tasted slightly burnt for me.

Was it suppose to be some burnt rice or the cook got too enthusiastic while cooking for a group of foodie bloggers that night?

If  DakGalbi or Jumuluck are not your pick, you can choose from their Ala-carte menu of Korean Ramyun, Pork Cutlet, Korean Jjapaghetti and Egg & Cheese Bubble.

 Korean Ramyun
RM 12

 Pork Cutlet
RM 16.50

 Korean Jjapaghetti
RM 7.80

Dak Galbi can be either a love or hate dish relationship with people. My daughter, Clarrisha Hong loves this dish to bits. At the mere mention of DakGalbi, her heart races and she can get super hyper as she absolutely love this dish since she's die-hard fan of Korean food.

Thumbs Up for Madam Grace's dishes

So if you are looking for a pure, unadulterated spicy DakGalbi or Jumuluck , Choi's Don & Dak is the place to dine for a real home-style and authentic Korean food. You can be rest assured that it really tastes just like the real thing back in Seoul as Madam Grace the owner herself makes all her sauces from scratch using fresh ingredients sourced from her homeland and local produce.
